Tim McGraw Music Video Shot In Springfield RELEASED

(How many landmarks can you spot?)

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – Just 30 days after they wrapped filming in Robertson County,  Tim McGraw’s latest single “Neon Church” has been released.

Several locations and businesses in Robertson County were used as a backdrop for the video. Smokey Barn News caught up with the film crew at the Vintage Whimsy in Springfield. Located on the Springfield historic square across from the Robertson County Courthouse, (MAP) the Vintage Whimsy is an antique store which is clearly amortized in the video.

Vintage Whimsy co-owner Bill Baldock told Smokey Barn News that the film crew was very friendly and professional. “They were here for about three or four hours,” Baldock said.

Baldock said he’s hoping it wasn’t too much of an inconvenience for his neighbors if so, he apologizes.

How many landmarks and businesses can you spot in the video, tell us in comments below.

GREENBRIER TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – On Tuesday, CMT film crews were in the Robertson County area filming a comedy series called “Still The King” a CMT comedy that stars Singer/Actor Billy Ray Cyrus.

View a short trailer of “Still The King”

Still the King is scheduled to debut early 2016. Cyrus plays the role of Vernon Brown — aka Burnin’ Vernon — a washed-up, a scandal-ridden, one-hit wonder who is kicked out of country music but emerges  20 years later as an Elvis impersonator.

During a drunken bender he is sentenced to return and perform community service after crashing into an old country church outside of Nashville. Vernon pretends to be the congregation’s new minister and later discovers that he has a 15-year-old daughter he’s never met.

Cyrus serves as executive producer and writer of Still the King by Hideout Pictures.

White House Heritage Marching Band Completes Another Successful Season.

The White House Heritage Band of Patriots marching band recently concluded another successful competitive season performing their show “Words”. Under the direction of J.R. Baker and Rebecca Pal the band competed in five competitions this fall at Clarksville Northeast High School, Siegel High School, Station Camp High School, Columbia Central High School and Franklin High School.

The band and percussion sections finished second in their class at three of these events, and the color guard finished third at Columbia Central’s contest. At the Clarksville Northeast contest the percussion section placed first in their class and fourth overall in the entire contest.

The band placed first in its class at the Columbia Central Marching Invitational and was also awarded a superior rating at two other different contests this year. This combination of achievement fulfills one component of the Tennessee Band Masters Sweepstakes award.

Baker said he hopes to qualify the band for this award in the spring with their performance at a regional Concert Performance Assessment event which will be held at White House Heritage High School March 13-15.

The band’s 2018 program “Words” featured a variety of music illustrating how everyone uses words to describe themselves and their world, how words are used to lift one another up, and how when words are not sufficient, that music can fill that void.

According to Field Commander and senior, Alex Copenhaver Pounds, “We all have our own special way of doing things and expressing ideas. With this show we expressed through marching and playing the thought that our differences are what we live for and that music and words alike build up the world.”

POLICE: Thieves Searching For Guns Targeting Unlocked Vehicles

POLICE: Thieves Searching For Guns Targeting Unlocked Vehicles

GREENBRIER TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – According to Greenbrier Police, many areas, including Greenbrier, are experiencing a significant increase in nighttime vehicle burglaries. Greenbrier police officers recently interrupted several thieves in the process of burglarizing vehicles, however, a dangerous vehicle pursuit ensued and in the interest of public safety, the pursuit was terminated due to the reckless driving behavior on the part of the suspects.

The normal method of operation for these individuals is to steal a car, usually in Nashville, and utilize the vehicle to transport three or four persons to a housing area to break into cars and take whatever they can. One main focus of these groups are guns that are left in unlocked cars in driveways or parking lots.

Many areas surrounding Nashville are experiencing these types of thefts. It is the normal procedure for these thieves to not force their way into a car but simply enter those that are unlocked. While we work to identify the persons involved in these thefts the Greenbrier Police Department urges all residents to remove firearms from their vehicle when it is parked overnight and to always lock your car.

Big Turnout For Wounded Officer Work Day Event

Big Turnout For Wounded Officer Work Day Event

ROBERTSON COUNTY TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – You know your event is a success when you need traffic control. That’s exactly what happened for a group of volunteers this past Saturday in Robertson County. Smokey Barn News started getting calls and emails from readers early in the morning wondering what the heck was happening.

Back on October 5th Metro Nashville Officer Samuel Galluzzi, 24, who lives here in Robertson County, was shot twice during the pursuit of an armed suspect in Nashville. Thankfully, Officer Galluzzi’s injuries were not life-threatening but he will need to stay off his feet for a while. Smokey’s News Partner News Channel 5 covered the shooting, see their video report below.

Move forward to Saturday, over 40 volunteers showed up at Officer Galluzzi’s home to get him caught up on a host of honey-dos. Volunteers brought shovels, backhoes, weedeaters, trucks, rakes, wheelbarrows and lots of manpower. The mission; tree removal, ground leveling, trench work, clearing, and cleaning. It was necessary work needed to protect Officer Galluzzi’s home and property. His injuries made the work impossible so volunteers stepped in for a one day blast of work that should have him all caught up, at least for a while, so he can focus on recuperating.

“First, Let me thank everyone that participated. It is almost hard to believe what we accomplished in 7 hours,” said team leader Paul Fuqua who brainstormed the project.

“The team of Tony and Trent Cobb of Cobb Construction and Excavation and their equipment added a multiplier effect to what all the volunteers accomplished. Caleb Fuqua of Square 1 Construction and his dump trailer made an impact on moving debris off the property. Chief Tyler Haley and the Officers of the Coopertown Police Department kept us safe on a busy Highway. Thank you to the person on the Zero Turn Mower and all that he did.

“To the men, women, girls and boys that slogged through weeds and mud all day tirelessly, without complaint, I salute you. Sam and the Galluzzi family have been amazed by the public support and all that was accomplished on Saturday.

“I believe that 15 large loads of debris were removed along with a dozen trees. I am a believer that good works return back to the giver in ways we cannot comprehend. Thanks again to all that worked, contributed and supported this project.”

Students Travel Abroad… How Your Teen Can Participate

Story by Brandy Baucom…..

ROBERTSON COUNTY TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – This past July, forty-one Springfield and White House Heritage High School students, parents, and teachers took off for a trip of a lifetime. They spent 13 days exploring 5 countries in Europe. The group visited Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy and France and it was not only a trip of a lifetime, but also an educational journey for all the students and eleven adults that attended.

After a 7+ hour overnight flight, they landed in Frankfurt, Germany and made their way to Rothenberg, Germany. While in Germany, the group enjoyed tasting different food items, such as Schnee ball and schnitzel. They visited Neuschwanstein Castle and took a bike tour through Munich. While in Munich they toured the Dachau Concentration Camp, Munich Residenz and the BMW factory. The bone-chilling views in Dachau of the gas chambers, living conditions and crematoriums really brought home a graphic history lesson.

The group traveled by way of Innsbruck, Austria to Lake Garda, Italy and enjoyed the scenery of the beautiful mountains along the way. Lake Garda is the largest lake in Italy and is known for its crystal-clear water. In Venice, Italy the group visited the Doge’s Palace and took a gondola ride on the Grand Canal. The group even got a view of Juliet’s Balcony and visited St. Marks Basilica.

While in Switzerland, they took the steepest cog railway in the world up to the top of Mount Pilatus in the Swiss Alps. Mount Pilatus is 7000 feet above sea level. At the top, they experienced the views of quaint villages and fields of Switzerland with cows grazing the land. Members of the group took a tram and toboggan ride down the mountain. After a boat ride across Lake Lucerne, the members visited the Heidelberg Castle, its famous wine barrel (largest in the world) and Lion of Lucerne monument. The Lion Monument in Lucerne is a rock relief to commemorate the Swiss Guards who were massacred during the French Revolution in 1792.

The last few days of their excursion took them by bullet train traveling in excess of 180 miles per hour from Strasbourg, France to Paris, France. The group experienced the celebrations across France for Bastille Day on July 14th. Bastille Day is the French National holiday celebrated every July 14th as a symbol of the French Revolution and unity amongst the French. On their guided tour of Paris, they visited the Notre Dame Cathedral, Place de la Concorde, Louvre and the famous Eiffel Tower. Security was very tight around the Eiffel Tower due to France and Croatia playing in the FIFA World Cup on Sunday, July 15, 2018. France won the World Cup that evening. The group watched as the celebrations began in the streets of Paris and will be something they never forget.

On the last full day, the group went to the top of the Montparnasse Tower, which is the tallest building in Paris, to see breathtaking views of the city. After a full day of sightseeing, the group took the Seine River cruise around the city. They experienced the beauty of Eiffel Tower at night. Every night starting at dusk, the tower lights up with a golden glow and sparkles for 5 minutes every hour. It was the perfect ending to a trip of a lifetime.

Tip Leads To Suspect Passing Fake $100 Bills

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE (Smokey Barn News) According to Springfield Police, the suspect wanted for allegedly trying to pass counterfeit $100 bills at McDonald’s and Sonic in Springfield has been identified and is now being processed at the Robertson County Detention Facility in Springfield.

According to Detective Chad Clinard with the Springfield Police Department, Heather Conley, 35, a Springfield area resident, has been charged with two counts of Criminal Simulation.

Detective Clinard told Smokey Barn News that the money was poor quality and didn’t really fool anyone. When confronted about the money by employees Conley drove off and employees quickly called 911. Clinard added that Conley was picked out of a photo lineup by two employees.

According to Detective Clinard, a citizen spotted a pickup resembling the one police were looking for after seeing the story on Smokey Barn News. It turned out to be Conley who, according to Clinard, confessed.

Conley was transported to the Robertson County Detention Facility in Springfield on a $5,000 bond.

Detective Clinard is asking anyone handling cash to be vigilant, especially as we enter the holiday season and the use of counterfeit money increases.

Heritage High Student Wins Statewide Logo Contest

White House Heritage High School Senior Anne Knight was named the winner of a statewide logo contest for the 2018 Early Post Secondary Opportunities Week (EPSO), October 22-26, sponsored by the Tennessee Department of Education.

Knight’s logo was selected as the winning submission out of a pool of entries from around the state and will be used across Tennessee to promote Early Post Secondary Opportunities.

Knight’s logo was produced as a class project in her Digital Arts and Design III class at White House Heritage High School. “I was surprised when I learned I won,” she said. “I still am a little in awe of what I did.”

Digital Arts teacher, Tom Beesley said Knight’s logo was consistent with her overall performance in class.

“I am super proud of Anne’s work,’ he said. “She is very creative and works hard to communicate her ideas when she completes a project. There were three students from her class who produced logos that were submitted for the contest.”

Knight had her own personal experience with EPSO to draw on in creating this year’s winning logo.

“I have taken several Advanced Placement classes already,” she said. “Since those credits come at graduation. I used that in my concept for the logo.”

Knight plans to attend college majoring in cinema studies after high school graduation, but has yet to select a college.

EPSO’s are college level classes and/ or credits that high school students can access while still at the high school level.

Springfield Middle Scholar Recognized At Statewide Conference

Innovation Academy scholar Jacob Barnett took part in the 2018 Model United Nations Conference in Murfreesboro on November 5.
Each fall, the YMCA of Middle Tennessee sponsors Model United Nations conferences for over 3,000 middle school students from across Tennessee. The goal of the conferences is to educate students about the real world operation of the United Nations as they reenact activities from the organization.

During the conference, students formed delegations to represent member countries’ interests in the General Assembly by drafting and debating resolutions. These resolutions cover a wide variety of topics of international concern.

As a representative of Panama, Barnett presented a resolution to bring much needed aid to the deforestation issue affecting that country’s economy, and potentially the well being of the Panama Canal.

Jacob was one of over 500 students in Monday’s Model UN in Murfreesboro to present resolutions to be passed by the General Assembly. He, along with 15-20 others, won the award of Outstanding Delegate for his use of parliamentary procedure, ability to stay in character, leadership skills, and evidence of preparation and research on his country’s issues.

White House FFA Conduct of Meetings Parliamentary Procedure Team Named District Champs

The White House FFA Conduct of Meetings Parliamentary Procedure team competed recently in the district competition. They outperformed the other teams from Sumner and Macon counties to earn the district championship. Team members are Ireland Bates, Faith Johnson, Alayna Grover, Chase Singleton, Jillian Haley, Ghethe Goad, and Mary Niblett. The conduct of meetings contest requires competitors to demonstrate their knowledge of parliamentary procedure through a written test, meeting demonstration, and oral questions. The teams have thirteen minutes to conduct a mock meeting which must include four parliamentary procedures that the judges designate. During their presentation, the team must debate a topic given by the judges. After the presentation, judges ask each team member an oral question to test the member’s knowledge of parliamentary procedure.

After 50 Years The Royal Inn Is Gone In 60 Seconds

Royal Inn Time Lapse Demolition

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – After about 50 years in operation, the Royal Inn in Springfield is gone. It took a week to bring down the old motel but with camera tricks and time-lapse photography, Smokey Barn News has carved it down to 120 seconds for you.

With a 50 year history, the Royal Inn was well known in Robertson County. In its heyday, it was popular with tourists traveling through but as times changed the old motel fell into disrepair and it was finally time for it to come down.

The demolition was very emotional for the Patel family that owned the motel. After so many years in operation, it was hard to say goodbye.

The good news for the Patel family is that the lot is in a very desirable location, directly across from Little Ceasars Pizza MAP and should fetch some reasonable coin. The Patal family told Smoky Barn News that the property will go to the highest bidder. If you would like to toss your hat into the ring call our office and we’ll get you connected with the Patel’s.

Migrating Loons Crash Landing On Wet Pavement (How You Can Help)

Migrating Loons Injured Mistaking Wet Pavement For Water

ROBERTSON COUNTY TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) –The Portland Police Department has been getting numerous calls regarding birds injured all over the city. Purportedly, Eastern Robertson County and Gallatin have also had the same problem.

According to a wildlife biologist,  the birds are Loons. The Loons are migrating through our area and are mistaking the wet paved streets as water and attempting to land. The loons are not diseased. They are being injured when they strike the pavement.

Smokey Barn News reached out to Walden’s Puddle. Funded by donations, they provide care and treatment for sick, injured and orphaned native Tennessee wildlife.  They tell us that because the birds are in migration they are looking for a place to rest. The storm has made the blacktop streets and parking lots look like water so the birds are essentially crash landing and in some cases injuring themselves.

According to Director of Animal Care Elisa Fosco at Walden’s Puddle Wildlife Center of Greater Nashville, Loons cannot take off from land, they must take off from the water. Fosco tells Smokey barn News that they have received 7 Loons in just the last two hours. She recommends that if you find a Loon on in the grass and it appears to be in good shape, it’s all right to try and move the bird to water if you can safely. However, if the bird appears to be injured or if it has been flailing around on the asphalt for very long, box up the bird and bring it to Walden’s Puddle. They will not come to you. Fosco says if you have any doubt, feel free to bring the bird in and they will be happy to give the bird the once over and get it relaunched.

The staff at Walden’s Puddle will clean off any road-oil, check the bird’s waterproofing and give it a checkup. The goal is to get the bird relaunched as soon as possible. If the bird needs more time they will care for it and release it in a week or two. There is still a few weeks left in the migratory window so the birds should be OK.

If you find a wild animal that is orphaned or injured, you can call their Wildlife Admissions Line for information. (615) 299-9938.
