East Robertson Girls Volleyball Coach Indicted On Sex Crimes

ROBERTSON COUNTY TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – This is an update to a story we brought you back in September regarding a Spanish teacher and girls volleyball coach at East Robertson High facing allegations of misconduct.

Following an investigation, the teacher, now identified as 31-year-old Clifton Weathers Horn of White House, is facing numerous charges. At 12:22 am this morning, Horn was booked into the Robertson County Detention Facility in Springfield after an indictment was returned by the Robertson County Grand Jury.

Horn allegedly hid video recording equipment in the girls’ locker room to capture them changing clothes or using the restroom, according to court documents released Tuesday. Horn then allegedly tried to destroy more than 700 files from his phone.

According to the Robertson County Sheriff’s Office, Horn faces several charges that include, one count of especially aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor, one count of unlawful photography in violation of privacy, one count of tampering with evidence, one count of sexual exploitation of a minor, six counts of attempted especially aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor, and six counts of attempted unlawful photography in violation of privacy.

The charges stem from an investigation while Horn was a girls Volleyball coach and Spanish teacher at East Robertson High School. According to Robertson County School’s Officials, Horn was suspended from East Robertson back in September once the investigation began. Horn resigned a short time later, according to school officials in September.

After booking, Horn spent a little less than an hour in the Robertson County Detention facility, bonding out on a $25,000 bond at 1:16 am.

Rollover Crash Uncovers Second Mysterious Crash Site On Lahr Rd

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – Officials in Springfield responded to a rollover crash on Lahr Rd Thursday around 1 pm. Shortly after they arrived, officials found themselves dealing with a second upside-down vehicle.

Both vehicles landed about 100 feet apart near a creek off Lahr Rd MAP down a steep embankment.  The vehicles had to be hoisted up to the road with special equipment. Fortunately no injuries were reported in either crash, however, officials are not sure how long the second vehicle had been there. If not for the rollover today the second vehicle may not have been discovered until fall thinned out the foliage.

The location of both vehicles and terrain added a bit of complexity for officials who spent nearly five hours at the scene investigating both crashes and removing both vehicles. Lahr Rd was intermittently closed throughout the day.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol, the Robertson County Emergency Management Agency, Robertson County EMS and the Pleasant View Fire Department all responded to the crash.

Shenandoah Releases New Music Video Filmed In White House, TN

“That’s Where I Grew Up”

WHITE HOUSE TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) — GRAMMY®, CMA and ACM Award-winning band Shenandoah has officially released their first music video in more than 20 years, “That’s Where I Grew Up” and it was filmed right here in Robertson County. Today, CMT Music and CMT.com exclusively premiered the new video, which also features fellow country star and Florida-native, Michael Ray.

Since signing a record deal with BMG, “That’s Where I Grew Up” is the second single to be released from the band’s new album, Reloaded (produced by Jay DeMarcus of Rascal Flatts). The new album blends their No. 1 hits such as “The Church on Cumberland Road,” “Two Dozen Roses,” and “Next to You, Next to Me” with three fresh tracks: “That’s Where I Grew Up,” “Little Bit of Livin,'” and their first single since the 90s, “Noise.” The last video Shenandoah released was 1995’s “Heaven Bound (I’m Ready).”

The music video is directed by the Edde Brothers and was filmed in a day using only one location to bring to life the tune’s reminiscent narrative— a scenic farm in White House, Tennessee.

However, fans won’t find this version of “That’s Where I Grew Up,” featuring Ray, on the Reloaded album or download, as it’s exclusive to the new music video. The newly-recorded track merges Ray’s signature deep vocals with Raybon’s distinctively smooth croon for a special collaboration.

Ray even makes a special cameo appearance in one of the most pivotal scenes in the video.

“We are absolutely thrilled and sincerely proud to premiere Shenandoah’s first video in 23 years,” says CMT’s Stacey Cato, Manager of Music and Talent. “It’s another incredible moment in a rich history of great country music and videos created by Shenandoah on CMT.”

A family affair, lead singer Marty Raybon’s grandson, Jamison Raybon, and drummer Mike McGuire’s daughter, Alexis Barnes, both appear in the video as well.

Watch the exclusive world premiere HERE

In celebration of the video release, Shenandoah and Ray will both perform on Friday, November 2 at this season’s first Opry at the Ryman.

The band has charted 26 singles on the Billboard Hot Country charts, including No. 1 hits “The Church on Cumberland Road,” “Sunday in the South” and “Two Dozen Roses” from 1989, “Next to You, Next to Me” from 1990, and “If Bubba Can Dance (I Can Too)” from 1994. The single “Somewhere in the Vicinity of the Heart,” which featured guest vocals from Alison Krauss, won both artists a GRAMMY®, Award for “Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.” To date, the group has sold millions of albums worldwide and is a recipient of the Academy of Country Music’s coveted “Vocal Group of the Year” award. Trick or Treat Forecast: Timing Of Rain, Flood Watches & Indoor Events

Trick or Treat Forecast: Timing Of Rain, Flood Watches & Indoor Events

ROBERTSON COUNTY TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – According to the US National Weather Service Nashville Tennessee, latest models are showing a “slowing” trend with the onset of rain, which could allow for additional trick-or-treating time (more candy for the kids = more for the adults to eat too!).

The current forecast for when rain will begin in 4-hour ranges is shown on the graphic!

Forecast rainfall Wed. through Fri. AM remains around 1-4″ for much of the area, w/ locally higher amounts north of I-40 and along/west of I-65. Rain/storms could be heavy at times Halloween night, especially across the northwest. Stay weather aware if trick-or-treating tomorrow!

After Trick OR Treating… (Late Wednesday into Thursday)

Flood watch in effect from late Wednesday night through late Thursday night. The national weather service in Nashville has issued a flood watch for a portion of middle Tennessee, including the following areas:

Robertson, Cheatham, Dickson, Hickman, Houston, Humphreys, Montgomery, Perry,  and Stewart.

From late Wednesday night through late Thursday night: showers and thunderstorms with heavy rainfall are expected, and total rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches with locally higher totals are possible. Some flooding is possible on roads, low lying and poor drainage areas, and along creeks and streams.

Precautionary/preparedness actions…

A flood watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts. You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.

Locally heavy rain expected Wednesday night and Thursday. A strong storm system is expected to bring numerous showers and thunderstorms to middle Tennessee from Wednesday night through the day on Thursday. The heaviest rainfall is expected over northwest middle Tennessee where 2 to 4 inches of rain with locally higher amounts could fall. This rainfall may cause some flooding issues on roads, creeks and streams, mainly from late Wednesday night into Thursday.

2018 ACT Scores, Robertson County Improves

ROBERTSON COUNTY TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – The Tennessee Department of Education released 2018 ACT scores on Wednesday, October 31.

Robertson County public school students recorded a 96% participation rate and scored an average composite score of 19.9. While this composite score equaled 2017 results, the percentage of on-time regular education graduates who scored 21 or higher increased from 40.8% to 41.4%. Additionally, 18.6% of RCS students taking the test met all four ACT benchmarks, up from last year’s 17.8%, making Robertson County one of the higher achieving school districts in Middle Tennessee.

Dr. Chris Causey, RCS Director of Schools said he is pleased with the overall results from this year’s scores.

“While we always want our composite to grow to a goal of 21, we are excited with the growth in our percentage of students scoring a 21 and the percentage of students meeting all benchmarks. This data shows that more students in Robertson County are ready for post-secondary opportunities which will lead to success in whatever path they choose.”

According to DOE Commissioner Candice McQueen, state ACT scores are, “an opportunity for our students to show they are college and career ready.” She further noted that the class of 2018 was the second group to have access to a free opportunity to retake the ACT, and that because of this; the state has seen promising results from all students, particularly those who are economically disadvantaged. “With increased ACT access and participation, our state has sent a strong signal to the country that Tennessee is committed to providing opportunities for our students’ futures,” she said.

Robertson County Schools will continue to emphasize the importance of ACT scores for graduating seniors and to provide the scholastic environment that will enable all students to succeed.

How To Get A Free hour Of Sleep This Sunday Morning

Fall Back! It’s Time To Set Your Clocks & Check Your Batteries

ROBERTSON COUNTY TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – Daylight Savings Time will begin at precisely 2 a.m. this Sunday, November 4. All you have to do is set your clocks (back one hour) Saturday night to get your free hour of sleep Sunday morning. If you forget, not only will you lose your free hour of sleep but you could also face the embarrassment of showing up really early to church Sunday morning.

This is also an opportune time to change the batteries in your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.

Every home should have working smoke alarms to provide an early warning. Statistics show that most fatal fires occur at night and almost every day a life is saved because of a working smoke alarm.

The maximum lifespan of Smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors are generally 8-10 years. Please test old units, if they do not respond properly when tested, they should be replaced immediately for the safety of you and your family.

If you have health issues and can’t change the batteries yourself, many Fire Departments will come to your home and change them free of charge. Smokey Barn News has confirmed with Fire Departments in Springfield, Portland,  Guthrey KY VFD, Ridgetop, White House Community VFD, White House City, North Robertson Fire and Pleasant View. All said they would be happy to come to your home and change smoke detectors batteries for those with health-related issues. Some fire departments may supply the batteries, some may not. Some Fire Departments even have programs that offer free smoke detectors to residents within their coverage area if you ask.

OK now, (like Smokey does every time there is a time change) we have added our video of Jim Ball setting the Robertson County Courthouse clock. Other than a reporter for Smokey Barn News, Jim is also a clockmaker and manages the big old clock. Jim rebuilt the old clock in 2006 during the courthouse restoration.

So if you are new to Smokey enjoy Jim’s delightful tour of the Courthouse clock and roof above.

White House “My Town” Lip Sync Shows Community Spirit

WHITE HOUSE TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – White House sets the bar high with a touching lip sync video that expresses the charm of the city on the right.

“Partly in Robertson and Sumner counties, White House is a tight community and we wanted the video to express that,” said White House Police Chief Pat Brady.

“That’s why we have both Highschool football teams, Cheerleaders, preschool kids, library, we had a few college students come home to participate, so we had a whole spectrum.

“Everyone donated their time and energy so there was very little production costs, it was truly a community project, Brady said. Production started back in late July and it was a lot of fun to watch it all come together.

“You know at the end looking back it’s really neat because we did so many film sessions and to see the final product was amazing. The filming that we did on the first day doesn’t really show up until 3/4 of the way in the video. It’s in a different order than what we filmed. It was really cool to see how that came together.

“The lip-synching part was really nerve-racking, I’ve never done anything like that before, it’s pretty cool how they set that up. They had very large speakers that just blasted the music so if you’re singing the song you’re not even hearing yourself, you’re just singing along to the loud music. Later they were able to go and edit that and cut it and sync it together. It came out really good.

“The video was put together by Joanne and Jim Gordon, of White House, who have a lot of experience with commercials and TV productions. Stratton DV Imaging also played a big part and it shows in the quality of the video.

“The community support was outstanding it was just fun, we really hope that shows in the video.”

Marines Land In Springfield In Day Of Training

SPRINGFIELD ROBERTSON TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) It was a site to see, a great big MV-22 Osprey Tiltrotor Aircraft landing at the Robertson County Airport. Actually, the helicopter/airplane landed many times in what was a day of training.

Chris Ferraraccio

“It was the US Marines and we were happy to have them,” said Airport Manager and Wingnuts Aviation co-owner Chris Ferraraccio. “We coordinated it about a month ago. It was great having them here.”

Chris says don’t be alarmed if you see the big bird flying over your home this evening, it’s just a training exercise. Expect to see them over the next few weeks as training continues.

Did you see the big bird today? Tell us about it in comments below.
