Meth Lab Found In Springfield Saturday Night

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – Detectives with the Robertson County Sheriff’s Office and officials with the Robertson County Emergency Management Agency are currently on the scene of what is being called a Meth Lab in Springfield.

IMG_2152The incident has occurred on Stevenson Lane, not far from Bill Jones Industrial Blvd and 5th Ave. (Location of incident)

Though we are waiting on an official release from authorities, we believe the incident was triggered by a 911 call  about noise in the area around 9:15pm.  From what we can see, the lab was either mobile or the equipment was being transported at the time of the discovery.

Officials are still processing the scene but did say that there was no danger to the surrounding community.

Officials have not indicated whether they have taken anyone into custody but did say that Stevenson Lane will be closed to through traffic between both ends of Cherokee St. until about 2:00am while the scene is cleared.

At the moment officials are waiting on the Tennessee Meth Task Force to arrive to recover and dispose of the equipment and chemicals.

As soon as officials release more information we will bring it to you.

Obituary for Dr. Marty Lee Glisson

Marty Glisson - obitDr. Marty Lee Glisson, age 58, of Cross Plains, TN was welcomed home by his loving Savior on Sunday, August 7, 2016. He was born, March 5, 1958 in Grand Rapids, MI the son of Dr. Eugene and Wanda Glisson.

If you had a vision or a dream, “Doc” Marty Glisson was the one to help make it a reality. If an area needed food, a satellite food distribution program would be established to reach the multitude of hungry. Where education was lacking, schools and colleges were placed on reservations, inner cities and internationally. Churches were planted, bibles interpreted in local languages, medical equipment, health and dental care provided… you name it, if there was a need, Doc found a way. Music was also a huge part of Doc’s life. He wrote countless songs to encourage, uplift, and heal broken souls.

The generous and abundant love he grew with his amazing wife and partner, Amy Glisson will continue to nourish their two incredible children and inspire us all to love further and stronger than our hearts can imagine. We were graced by all of this through one human being, a man who devoted himself to his beautiful family, music and selfless work for others, while throughout his time here suffered gallantly with Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease. It is without a doubt that the Lord welcomed him home saying, “Well done my good and faithful servant!” His laughter and passion for bettering the world, his songs and encouraging words, his love, determination and illuminating smile will be missed until we are all together again.

He was preceded death by his father, Dr. Eugene Glisson, mother, Wanda Maxine Glisson, brother, Alan Eugene Glisson, daughter, Chasity Sunshine Lee Glisson. He is survived by his wife and life partner of 27 years, Amy Jean Glisson; son, Joshua Alan Lee Glisson; daughter, Rebeccah Maxine Glisson; brothers, Steve (Shirley) of Navarre Beach, FL, Daron (Margie) of Cross Plains, TN, Chris (Sara) Glisson of St. Joseph, MI; brothers-in-law, Jeremy (Tessa) Lander of Temecula, CA and Scott Lander of Gallatin, TN. A wonderful family of in-laws, Judy Lander of Bath, NY, Ron, (Leigh) Lander of Siler City, NC, Lisa (Terry) Brethen of Rochester, NY and Veronica Barbis of Batavia, NY. Many nieces, nephews, special aunts, uncles and cousins. A great, big ‘Thank you’ to cousin Pam Frith for taking time out of her life to be here and help him walk his journey home. Also special friends, Lance and Susanne Huff and god-daughters, Gracie and Sydney Huff, Richard and Sandy Biastock, Bruce and Shari Quick, Randall and Paula Carr.

A special thanks to our friend and doctor, Dennis Rainwater from Northcrest Primary Care, and the staff of Caris Hospice, and especially our Angel on Earth, Nurse Sharon Robinson.

Millersville Police Chief Terminated By City Manager

MILLERSVILLE TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – Millersville Police Chief
David Hindman was fired Monday, and Lt. John Brown (who was second in command) has resigned.

Keystone 300Hindman told Smokey Barn News that his termination came as a complete shock. Hindman arrived at work Monday morning and was told he was out of a job, and by noon his office was cleared out..

Smokey Barn News met with Hindman at his home Monday afternoon.  “I was fired without cause and due process,” Hindman said during the interview.

Hindman said the city manager Caryn Miller told him; “You no longer have control of your police department, you no longer have control over your officers.” Hindman disagrees.

According to Hindman, Brown publicly said inappropriate things about the city manager on Friday. Hindman said he was not given the chance to deal with Brown himself.

Hindman said he was given the option to resign but declined. “I have nothing to resign or be terminated for,” Hindman said.

Smokey Barn News did reach out to the Millersville city manager Caryn Miller for comment but it was late in the day. Miller did however speak to our news partner WKRN News 2. Miller told News 2 that it was more than just the one incident with Brown, and the chief was not the right person for the job.

“It’s unfortunate I had to take the action I took with David. It’s been coming for quite a while. It is not just because of one incident. There are several incidents behind this, and I had to make a decision,” Miller told News 2.

She added, “He is not the right person for this department and I had to let him go.”

“At this point, we are looking for another chief, and we will move on,” Miller said.

To the citizens, Miller says, “I say to my citizens, ‘Don’t worry. You are in good hands still. We will move on and the department will provide the services you deserve.”

Miller also told News 2 the Millersville sergeants will supervise the officers and report to her as administrator.

Hindman said he is proud of the work he did in Millersville, bringing a sense of professionalism to the department and opening up honest lines of communication with the community.

Hindman has 32 years of experience in law enforcement and said he will be seeking another opportunity as a police chief.

Alleged Theft Ends With Rollover Crash In Walmart Parking Lot

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – A Springfield man is behind bars this morning after the vehicle he was in crashed through a fence and rolled down an embankment in the parking lot of Walmart in Springfield.

IMG_2230bThe accident started in the parking lot of Walmart and ended in the parking area of Hail & Cotton directly next door. MAP According to Springfield Police, the driver failed to navigate the turn in the alley behind Walmart and drove through the fence separating the two companies and then rolled down an embankment. The call to 911 came in at 3:35am.

About 30 minutes before the accident, police had been called to Walmart regarding the theft of beer and meat. Before police could arrive they were told that the suspect got away. About 30 minutes later police were told that the man had returned to the Walmart for more beer and meat but this time Police were given a description of the suspect and the vehicle he was driving.

According to Police, while in route back to Walmart for the second call, a homeless man told Walmart employees that; “Someone rolled a car over behind your store.”

The first officer arrived and saw no suspect or inverted vehicle. Though the vehicle had crashed through a fence and was sitting just feet away upside-down, the fence had recoiled back into place and the vehicle was at the bottom of an embankment, virtually out of sight for the officer.

A second officer arrived and was told by Walmart employees that the suspect in the meat and beer theft was on the other side of a fence separating Walmart and Hail &
Cotton standing next to an upside-down vehicle. The man and the vehicle matched the description of the suspect that officers were given earlier.

As officers investigated the accident scene they discovered a neatly stacked pile of meat and beer about 30 feet from the crash. The man was taken into custody but denied being the driver. Police say the man had a revoked drivers licence for a prior DUI and did admit to drinking but said he was not the driver of the vehicle. According to Police, the suspect said a friend was driving but he just met the man tonight and forgot his name.

AsadSpringfield Police say the suspect, Robert Asad, 25,  of Springfield Tennessee was taken into custody under suspicion of DUI and was transported to NorthCrest Medical Center in Springfield for mandatory blood toxicology testing. According to Police, while in route to the hospital, the man kicked out the rear window of the police cruiser, presumably to escape police custody.

Backup was called and leg-irons were placed on the suspect. The suspect was then transported to the hospital for blood testing, Police said.

Police are hoping that security surveillance video from the numerous cameras at Walmart and Hail & Cotton will fill in the blanks.

Barrett Firearms Donates Rifles to RC County Sheriff Office

RC Sheriff Holt Receives Free Rifle From Barrett Firearms

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – Robertson County Sheriff Bill Holt is getting a brand new REC7 DI Barrett rifle, the cost to tax payers? zero.

Barrett Firearms donated rifles to every Tennessee County Sheriff Office or Department yesterday in Sevierville, TN at the Tennessee Sheriffs’ Association Annual Conference & Exhibition.

Barrett Firearms President Chris Barrett, shown photographed with Robertson County Sheriff Bill Holt, announced that his company is donating 95 Barrett REC7 DI rifles, one to each Tennessee county sheriff’s office or department.

REC7_DI“When the Barrett story is told, folks usually talk about the civilian shooters and militaries around the world that have chosen Barrett long-range precision rifles for more than three decades. Less-often mentioned is my father’s background as a county sheriff’s deputy, our 5.56 carbines and rifles, and the countless law enforcement agencies that choose Barrett. We want to highlight that legacy and show our strong support for law enforcement by donating these Barrett REC7 DI rifles to the sheriffs in our state,” Mr. Barrett said during remarks at the conference.

“As lifelong Tennesseans and builders of the Barrett Model 82A1/M107, the ‘Official State Rifle of the State of Tennessee,’ we are proud to build every one of these rifles in Tennessee. We believe that the sheriffs can use these rifles as they enforce the laws around this great state.”

About Barrett Firearms Manufacturing, Inc.

Barrett is a family-owned and -operated company and the world leader in large-caliber rifle design and manufacturing. Barrett products are used by civilian sport shooters, law enforcement agencies, the United States military, and more than 70 U.S. Department of State-approved countries across the world. http://barrett.net/

SHERIFF: Another Burglary Suspect In Custody

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – Yesterday, officials with the Robertson County Sheriff’s Office charged Thomas Mooneyhan, 35, of Springfield with burglary. The burglary took place in Adams Tennessee on Hooper Hollow Road in late July.

thomas mooneyhanMooneyhan has been charged with Aggravated Burglary and Theft over $1,000 for the incident, according to a release from the Robertson County Sheriff’s Office.

Mooneyhan was already in the Robertson County detention facility on other charges stemming from an arrest earlier this month, officials said. On August 2 Mooneyhan was charged with Driving on a Revoked License (sixth offense) and possession of stolen property (Theft of Property over $1000.00) from a theft in Guthrie, Kentucky.

According to Robertson County Sheriff’s Office PIO Ryan Martin, items found in Mooneyhan’s vehicle during his arrest on August 2 matched the items reported stolen from Guthrie Ky.

“This is the third set of burglaries (1st – 2nd) we have solved in the last two weeks,” said Sheriff Bill Holt. “We appreciate the watchful eye of the citizens that have reported information on suspicious activity. Those leads help our investigators locate suspects and bring people to justice for these crimes.”

Mooneyhan’s current charges are;  Driving On Revoked/suspended License, Theft Of Property, Over $1000, Aggravated Burglary, Theft Of Property, Over $1000 and Vandalism.  Total bond: $80,000

Springfield Officials Investigate Power Outage

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – Engineers with Springfield Utilities are currently working to restore power to customers Northwest of downtown Springfield.

At the moment we do not have a cause of the outage but we do know that the Robertson County 911 Dispatch center is currently running on backup generators.

Our best estimate is that power to the affected area has been out since about 7:40pm.

Smokey Barn News is working hard to isolate the cause and get an estimate on how long until power is restored.

We do not know how many customers are affected at this time but Smokey Barn News has been contacted by several individuals reporting that Hwy 41 toward Cedar Hill are without power.

If you are without power report your general location in comments.

Update 9:30pm:

According to an employee with Springfield Electric, engineers were able to restore power by resetting a breaker. The exact cause of the outage is still unknown and will be investigated further tomorrow during daylight hours.

Millersville X-Police Chief Responds To City Manager’s Accusations

MILLERSVILLE TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) –On Monday, Smokey brought you the news that Millersville Police Chief David Hindman had been fired, and Lt. John Brown (who was second in command) resigned, both within minutes of each other Monday morning.

On Monday Hindman told Smokey Barn News that his termination came as a complete shock. In a video interview at his home Monday afternoon Hindman told Smokey Barn News;  “I was fired without cause and due process,” (FULL Interview here)

City Manager Caryn Miller stated publicly that Hindman was just not the right person for the job and she had to let him go.

Now in a letter made public addressed to the Mayor and Commissioners of Millersville, Miller’s reasons for letting Hindman go are outlined in detail. In the letter (below) Miller states that John Brown made a “specific threat to my life” in Chief Hindman’s office while other Officers were present.” Miller says that Hindman “made me a target.” by not telling her about the threat.

After the letter was released, Hindman quickly fired back.  Hindman says (in his letter below) that Miller new about the threat on the day it happened. Hindman forward his response to Smokey Barn News this afternoon. You can read the letter (in full) below Miller’s letter to city officials.

MILLERSVILLE TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) –
FROM: Caryn Miller, City Manager
TO: Mayor and Commissioners
CC: Holly Murphy, Assistant City Manager DATE: 8/8/2016
RE: Personnel Matters

As I discussed with you over the telephone on Friday, John Brown made a specific threat to my life in Chief Hindmans’ office while other Officers were present. This morning I obtained statements from the people involved that backed the threat was said. I asked Jon Brown to come into my office and I had Dustin Carr and Mark Palmer there as witnesses. After considering the situation, speaking with our attorney and much thought I was prepared to fire John Brown. John Brown resigned before I could fire him. I have accepted his resignation.

The same incident made me take a hard look at the Police Department and its leadership. For some time now I have been verbally counseling David Hindman about his priorities and given him deadlines to meet related to the following:

Camera purchases

External hard drive for camera video downloads

A list of all uniforms and gear issued to each officer

Purchase of vests

Purchases of gear for one and not for others

Radars and Lydars

Paperwork not being given in on time or missing

Inaccurate time sheets

To date on Friday, none of this has been done much less the policy on take home vehicles that I asked him to enforce last year. I have heard complaints and discontent from the Officers feeling they have no direction and or guidance.

The fact that this incident happened in his presence and he did nothing about it except “chew him out” concerned me but did not surprise me. As a Supervisor, David Kissel carnival 300did not apply discipline well or across the board, something I was constantly reminding him about. The fact that he did not tell me about the incident and allowed me to come in the next day totally in the dark about the situation made me a target. He did not properly protect me. The fact that officers were afraid to come forward and wanted the Fire Chief to let me know about this, shows that he is not a good leader. The fact that he called the other officers back into his office and told them that not a word was to be said about the incident, shows me lack of professional conduct, hiding an event and protecting the blue line above all costs. This is unacceptable to me and shows me that we need someone else to lead the department.

I decided after a long hard thought process that I would let him go today. I am glad I did, because now I really know what is going on. The Officers do not have any ammunition for their guns. Practice ammo we have a ton but not service ammo. There are a lot more things. John Brown kept syringes in his desk that were evidence. I wonder what else we will find.

My commitment is to the citizens of Millersville and a department that is not being run effectively cannot be effective. When I confronted David today he immediately began to become aggressive, his voice raised and called the Mayor demanding that something be done about me. He refused to give me his gun, shield and credentials and screamed and yelled at me while stating that he will only surrender his gun if the Mayor and Board tell him to. He also spewed some more comments in the hallway about me meddling in his department and returned in a more aggressive manner to my office. He scared me. I asked the two officers in my office to escort him out of my office and he ordered them not to. They followed what I asked and escorted him to his office. He then called Andy Cordan of the news media and several lawyers. I spoke with the Mayor who suggested that I have another department come out and escort him out. We did that but as they were in route Davis’ wife came up and he surrendered his gun, credentials and shield to our Officers and he cleaned out his vehicle while an officer was there. We called the outside agency off.

Youth talent show 300Locks have been changed and passwords changed. His office is being packed up and pictures taken. His belongings will be brought to him.

I have a mandatory meeting at 3 pm for all officers. The plan in the meantime is for me to be temporary Administrative head of th edepartment. I have two supervisors, one days, one nights, that will handle the day to day for me and report directly to me. I am hiring Matt Nelms who is a Certified Reserve and have instructed Deb to place an ad for another officer. I am calling MTAS to start the search for a new Chief.

Please let me know if you have any concerns or questions. Also be assured this was not an easy decision to make, but I strongly feel it is in the best interest of the City.

The former Chief David Hindman responded to the letter from Millersville City manager. Hindman sent us the following letter this morning.

“Alright, I have read Millers memo she sent to Andy Cordan. Do I start being snide and obtuse about Miller?  No, I don’t think so because I am a better person than that. It is a fact that has been shown in news articles from Florida and Wyoming that she has had severe problems with other individuals in other cities. Flagler Beach FL would not name her the City Manager but named a man named Campbell and these two did not get along at all, even though Campbell made it seem like he had no problem with Miller.  Miller told me that her chief of police in Wyoming was a Chief from hell !! I can understand the Chief not getting along with Miller, I can also understand the Chief  wanting to dig up her torrid past and credit to Miller her past has been expunged from the criminal history. Miller herself told me this. Miller has told Me this Chief of Police acted in an inappropriate manner and if true I understand why these two were bitter enemies. So where there is smoke there is fire. There was problems in her past. She has been demoted and has been given less responsibilities because of her people handling skills.
Greenbrier Dental implants 300 - Bb “The memo she submitted has several inaccuracies if not bold face lies. First Miller states she called LT Brown in her Office to fire him but he resigned before she could fire him   This is in accurate. Both Miller and Brown told
Me she gave him a choice resign or be terminated. John Brown was forced to resign with no other choice to be made. One of the main definite lies is her statement I withheld the incident from her and she came in the next morning blindsided and I caused her life to be in danger. Gee it’s funny I did not know she came in on Saturday, this incident happened on Friday afternoon and she called me on my personal cell phone Friday around 7:30 pm. Miller was very rude and very mad yelling and screaming at me. I have my cell phone records to prove it. It is a fact she did not come in the ” next morning nor was she blind sided by the news”. Miller knew about the incident and told me she would see me Monday morning, so how is it possible she did not know of this unfortunate incident before Monday.
Next she claims of my shortcomings of “priorities”. I can say that these listed reasons are also not accurate. Miller makes it seem that I had to be counseled the entire year of 2016 for not making purchases Miller sent an email to all department heads NOT to spend any money unless approved by Miller till after July 1 2016.
Miller approved for me to purchase two protective vests. Both were ordered and both officers have been measured and are wearing them today. I ordered myself a vest as well, but cancelled mine after I was terminated to save the city money (about $800). Miller also stated she has complained I have not taken care of the Radars, well anyone who wishes can contact PB Electronics located in  Shepardsville  KY. I sent 4 broken Radar units to this establishment for repair and had to send one of those units back a second time for a repair under warranty. Anyone wishing can contact Emergency Blue Lighting and speak with the proprietor who installed all four  radar units in the new 2016 Cruisers. As for the Lidar (correct spelling) I was sending it out soon since I just spent $1300.00 for the repairs and the Lidar would cost $400.00 for repair from Stalker Comapny.
“As for the list of uniforms for each officer; what each one was issued to wear on duty. This order was given to me a week ago last Tuesday and she wanted it by Friday last week, day of the blowup. I had all the lists ready to give her but was terminated from my job before I could give it to her on Monday. The list was prepared and on my desk to give her. I don’t understand what she is talking about by purchasing gear for one and not all the officers. Except for the new Officers who were outfitted upon hiring, the other officers only had 2 or 3 outfits to wear. I believe in taking care of the Officers and see to it that they have the equipment and uniforms needed to do their jobs. Miller wanted the officers to bring in and show me a worn or torn uniform before she would authorize a new uniform pants or shirt. I trust our Officers to be sensible and use common sense when needing equipment or uniforms. I do not micro manage as Miller does.
Highland Rim 300 ad “Miller did not authorize an external hard drive to download the body cameras until after July 1 these cost less than 250.00 I had more pressing priorities at the time, like making sure 4 brand new cruisers were outfitted properly and radios working properly and radars installed. I was receiving Quotes for new in car camera systems last week and was hopefully ordering them this week, again I did not get to finish because I was terminated.
“I am guilty of submitting officers time sheets with mistakes on them. Holiday pay is very confusing to figure out. So I make mistakes on the time sheets is this worth terminating a person for really ? Yes there was times I would miss a purchase order and submit a mistake on a purchase order but this was not an everyday occurrence but to terminate an employee for this when there are checks and balances from another employee checking paperwork. When I was shown the mistakes I would correct them or Miller would tell me it’s ok no problem it is simple mistake. I work diligently to make sure I did not turn in insufficient paperwork but I am human, mistakes will be made.
Who points out the mistakes Miller makes, such as failing to submit a proper budget balance for salaries for the part time Officers used to cover shifts or the increase in overtime going from an eight hour day to a twelve hour day. Thus being extremely over on salaries. (+ $ 25,000.00).
“Miller stated I failed to discipline John Brown for his inappropriate outburst. At the time of the outburst I told the two officers in my office to leave and to not talk among the employees no one needed to hear this tragic outburst that I was going to deal with. There is absolutely no truth to me calling officers back into my office and instruct them to silence. So much for the accusation of the blue line protection, shame on you Miller for slandering my name. The only officer I called back to my office is John Brown and I discussed his poor judgement on his statements made in front of two other employees. I then sent him home for the rest of the shift and would deal with him Monday. Which of course I was not allowed to complete. It is Miller who is creating this coverup statement to justify her actions and make herself look supervisory.
“Now her statement of her being “scared” seriously ??? Don’t flatter yourself Miller I have a  32 year career in law enforcement you are definitely not worth me wasting my life or my career by Scaring you seriously ??? Shame on you for even making accusations of such nonsense. I had just been forced to tender my own resignation for a job I have worked all
my life to obtain. That was not acceptable at all, Miller terminated me with no recourse or no formal hearing of charges or a hearing before a disciplinary review board. Was I upset sure I was and I said my peace and wanted Mayor Tim Lassiter to be there as a mediator. I called Lassiter but after waiting a while it was evident he would side with Miller. I decided to call my wife and leave.
“About me calling Andy Cordan she is assuming I did it while in my office after being terminated. NOPE that’s not the fact at all. Cordan texted me when I was at my home asking what’s up for the weekend. I told him about my termination at my home. Now as for calling “several lawyers” once again it’s Miller ASSUMING. I did call a lawyer but that again was at my home after my termination and it’s none of her business what lawyer I called or what I called the lawyer about.
Corbin Creek Purple 300“In closing this lengthy statement Miller has terminated me for disagreeing with her on some of her management decisions and her treatment of Police Employees. Sadly, those employees remaining are in fact terrified of losing their jobs by these examples of her terminating employees who cross her. It is hard working for Miller, the Commission has no power over her actions or decisions. I am positive that officers were not afraid of stating their feelings to me. Several have had to be instructed in the proper way to address supervisors on different occasions, thus seeming to me that they are definitely not afraid to say what’s on their minds to me.
“You, the public, has seen her memo and shame on her for embellishing the facts. Again she is just covering her guilt for overreacting. Now the point of ammunition, last week Cpl Tomarchio told me we were out of Duty ammunition. I contacted Guns and Leather in Green brier TN and ordered duty ammo under the price of $300.00 for the Officers. At no time were officers without duty ammunition just old ammunition. Once I learned of this fact I was in the process of correcting this. Anyone can verify this action by calling Guns and Leather gun store. This was done before my termination if Miller would have asked me she would have discovered I corrected this problem.
“Now let’s discuss the problem of take home vehicles for the Police Officers. Last year it was made a rule by Miller and the commission that no officer may take home a patrol car more than 10 miles from the driveway of city hall. Our officers have not received a pay raise in between 5-7 years. A take home police vehicle would offer a small benefit to the officers to supplement their low pay. What’s a real shame is our Commission board made a big deal on making sure the police officers would receive a pay raise on THIS years budget because the city wants to retain good employees. The officers received .10 cents for a pay raise. Of the 12 officers who drove cruisers one left his parked because of the mileage. Nine other officers lived within 11 to 11 1/2 miles from the PD lot and I allowed them to take the cars home. Miller became angry because I chose to ignore the ten mile rule because they were only over slightly and they again still only received a ten cent raise in seven years. She called me on my cell phone because officers were very upset at having to give up the take home car privilege. She yelled at me over the phone and told me to issue a memo stating anyone not happy about the take home cars can call her and if they did not like it they could resign and it’s not her problem and she does not care. I had emailed each full time officer the address form to verify there living address. Also Miller wanted an electric or water bill for proof of address. Micro management and not trusting the officers upset several of them and several stated they took offense to being called a liar or dishonest.
“There are two sides to every story, Miller states she terminated me because I was not the man for the job I disagree totally. Several times she has told Me I have changed the outlook of the department and made great advances in gapping bridges of discontent with other departments and inner departments. I have been responsible for the purchasing of new Glock handguns at no cost to the city budget. The same with antiquated shotguns. The members of the CID built and opened a very modern office and interview room at little cost to the city. Last years budget over $37,000,00 was spent on vehicle repairs of the antiquated cruisers. I came up with the idea of leasing four brand new 2016 cruisers for the price of one payment for 4 years, at the end of the lease all four vehicles would belong to the city. One officer was added to the department for additional patrol value.  Officers were receiving valuable outside training and was in the process of starting on line training. When I started with Millersville policy and procedure had been neglected and untouched for several years. I was able to institute new updated policy and procedures. Instituted the use of Body Cameras to be used on each traffic stop and patrol calls. I was not yet finished with starting new things for the community and citizens.”

Little Caesars In Springfield To Rebuild After City Condemns Building

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – Back on July 7th the roof at Little Caesar’s Pizza in Springfield MAP caved in due to the substantial amount of rain Robertson County had that night. The city condemned the building the next day and the entire building had to come down.

Heavy rains took their toll on Robertson County Roads, homes and business that night.

A family on Owens Chapel Rd in Springfield was forced to evacuate after the creek behind their home came up over its banks and swallowed their house. Smokey was there as the family was escorted out by officials. FULL STORY

All that rain proved to be too much for the Little Caesars Pizza on Memorial Blvd too and sometime during the night the roof caved in causing heavy damage to the business.

Roof caves-in at Little Caesars

Roof caves-in at Little Caesars

According to the Little Caesars franchise owner in Springfield Mark Ross, they have decided to stay at there location on Memorial Blvd. and are working with the landlord on a new site plan. “The new plan will be more convenient for our customers,” Ross said. “Parking will be more accessible and the drive thru (if approved by codes) will go around the back (eliminating that tight turn to access the window) We are really focusing on the drive thru experience.” Ross said about 60 to 65% of customers utilize the drive through. “It a very high volume store.” Ross said.

According to Ross, Little Caesar’s has a new interior model. “The old model is about 10-15 years old,” Ross said. “It looks completely different than what you are used to seeing.” Since the building had to come down, they will incorporate the new design in the rebuild. “The building will be a little bit bigger,” Ross said. The drive-thru going around the back will be a great improvement and the new lobby will have new LED screens.

The building and property is owned by Hollingworth. Though the dimensions of the building will be about the same, Hollingworth has been very accommodating, according to Ross. “They were very nice.” – “They said, ‘What do you guys need?”

Ross said that early on there was some thought of moving up the street but everyone was on board with getting this store re-built as fast as possible, so they decided to stay.

“It’s a bit unfortunate but we’re excited to start all over again and have a new grand opening here shortly,” Ross said.

Ross said he expects to re-open in early winter.

Exotic Lizard Found In Robertson County

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – A Robertson County woman found an exotic lizard (Bearded Dragon) on the side of the road on Saturday, August 13.

The lizard was in a transport container and appears to have fallen from a vehicle.  The container was on the outside of a curve. “I do not feel this is an abandoned pet,” the woman told Smokey Barn News, “since it was in a container and in good condition.”

The woman (that wishes to remain anonymous) said she did some research on what to feed the lizard and it seems to be eating and in good health.

To claim your pet you’ll need to describe the transport container that the lizard was in and know roughly where in the county the lizard was lost. Email the info to LostLizard@SmokeyBarn.com

We will arrange for you to be reunited with the lizard.

FRAUD ALERT: Card Readers Found on Local Bank ATMs

CLARKSVILLE TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – On Saturday August 13, around 9 am, an individual noticed something suspicious about the ATM at the First Advantage Bank located at 2070 Wilma Rudolph Blvd in Clarksville.

Something just didn’t seem right to a bank customer.  What they discovered was a credit/debit card skimmer affixed to the mouth of the ATM.

What is a card skimmer? A card skimmer is a device made to be affixed to the mouth of an ATM to secretly swipe credit and debit card information when bank customers slip their cards into the machines to pull out money. This applies to other equipment, such as gas pumps, where credit/debit cards are used.

IMG_20160813_153604_resizedWhen a bank employee advised the other branches, employees from their Madison St and Fort Campbell Blvd branches found skimmer devices attached to their ATM’s as well.

Clarksville Police Officers have taken possession of the devices, however, it is unknown at this time how many of these devices have been attached to other ATMs at other locations across middle Tennessee.

All businesses, especially banks and gas stations, are advised to check equipment where credit/debit cards can be used.

Now police believe they have identified a couple of suspects. Photos below.

The vehicle the suspects were driving appears to be a silver Pontiac Montana with a Jesus Fish symbol on the lower left corner of the back window.

If anyone recognizes these individuals and their vehicle or has any information related to these incidents, please call 931-648-0656 and ask for Detective Channing Bartel at Ext 5144 or Detective Andy Hurst at Ext 5263. You can also call the CrimeStoppers TIPS Hotline at 931-645-TIPS or go to the CrimeStoppers website.

What’s Going On At The Springfield 17th Ave Water Tower?

What’s Going On At The Springfield 17th Ave Water Tower?

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – We did get your emails on the water tower located off  17th Ave in Springfield. MAP The question we received from a good number of readers was; “Why is the tower covered in cloth?”

Our research for the answer led us to Springfield City Manager Paul Nutting. “It’s down for maintenance, all the tanks have to be maintained. Paint jobs don’t last forever,” Nutting said,  “and that tank hasn’t been painted for 15 or 20 years.”

The large cloth that you see going up and down the sides and on top is there to act as a wind shield and to prevent dust, dirt and paint from landing on vehicles and homes near by.

Engineers will also be replacing a rail inside the 17th Ave tank that, according to Nutting, holds 750,000 gallons of water. That makes the 17th Ave tank 450,000 gallons bigger the 300,000 gallon tank on 8th Ave next to the jail.

Nutting said the 8th Ave tank is currently not in use and operates as a back-up tank. “We have a better way of moving the water, we put in different sized lines and no longer really use the tank on 8th Ave.”

Nutting said, though not in use currently, they still maintain the 8th Ave tank and will until they decide what to do with it.

For those of you that have thought that the 8th Ave tank would make a great apartment, Nutting said it’s not for sale. We didn’t ask the codes department what they thought of that idea. It’s been done before though. Click here to see some on Google.

Police Investigate Body Found In Pleasant View Cave

PLEASANT VIEW TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – The T.B.I. will be assisting in an investigation after a body was found in a cave located in Pleasant View Wednesday morning.

According to our news partners WKRN News 2, the discovery of the body was made in a cave on Beluah Boulevard, just off of Highway 41A. (Location of investigation)

Officials with the Pleasant View Fire Department told Smokey Barn News that they were called to the scene around 8:40am this morning.  They also indicated that the cave is located at the bottom of an embankment and the body (a male) was in water.

The family has been notified and they have gathered near the scene but authorities have yet to officially release the person’s identity.

Officials have not released any information on how the body got there or if foul play is suspected at the moment, however, police are expected to release more information, including the identify of the individual, shortly.

Pleasant View police and Fire, EMS and the Cheatham County Sheriff’s Office all responded to the scene.

UPDATE: 2:00pm Officials are releasing a little more information about the situation but they are still asking the media to hold back releasing the identity of the individual.

Investigators have indicated that the body was found by family members submerged in water in the cave around 8:30 a.m. this morning.

As far as a cause of death or if foul play is suspected, officials are still being tight-lipped but did say that they treat every death investigation as a crime scene until they know differently.

“We have a body, in a cave, submerged in water. Outdoor crime scenes are hard to process, so it makes it very complex,” according to Dale Smith of the Cheatham County Sheriff’s Office.

Manley and his son (PHOTO WKRN News 2)

UPDATE: 4:00pm Officials are now releasing the name of the man, he is identified as 23-year-old Robert “RJ” Manley,  and he was found by his father, the family telling News 2 that he had been missing since Sunday.

The cause of Manly’s death was not immediately known. The investigation is ongoing.

News 2 spoke with the family’s pastor, Cecil Boswell, who has known RJ since he was a child.

“He was a fella who stayed to himself a lot, but he loved his family and loved everyone else. I don’t know anyone who was not a friend, so just pray for the family,” said Pastor Boswell.
