According to the CDC, some people will have no symptoms but still transmit the virus. This could suggest that the number of cases in Robertson County could be higher than the official recorded cases. There are still many unknowns with this virus. All we know for sure is it is easily transmitted from person to person, and it can kill. That is why our local leaders all the way up to the President and the CDC are promoting social distancing and hand washing.
In addition, the CDC is now strongly recommending wearing some kind of mask when out in public.
An important message from the Tennessee Department of Health
We all have to work together to stop the spread of COVID-19. Feeling the need to leave home? Ask yourself if that trip is REALLY essential.

Many people Alan and Janette met on their travels still kept in touch.
He never met a stranger, always set goals, and loved family above all else. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church. He taught a Sunday School Class and was Chairman of the Board for many years. In his retirement years, he and his wife enjoyed traveling in the RV. Gregory Cecil Garner, Jr., age 43, passed away on Friday, June 19, 2020.
Greg was a loving fiancé, father, brother, uncle and friend. He was the life of every room that he walked into and had friends everywhere he went. Even in pain and illness, he radiated joy. Among his working UBS family, he was the loud happy one as he walked onto the floor every day. He also loved attending Godwhy Church and his connect group there. Even recently when he couldn’t attend in person, he was still excited to tune in on TV every week to hear the worship and message there. Now Greg also loved to eat, even when it wasn’t in his diet to do so. Despite all the candy he consumed, he had a cavity free mouth that defied the odds
Greg was largely involved in coaching youth sports with his fiancé, Jasmine Quintana. A Civitan softball coach, he was always finding ways to give, teach, and serve his students. It was nothing for him to help a young athlete in need find a pair of cleats, a bat or glove, or stay late helping them perfect their technique. Jasmine never had room in their vehicles for groceries because of all the sports equipment that Greg deemed necessary for his coaching. He will be dearly missed by his Hendersonville Softball girls, among his other baseball and basketball students.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Ceriah Garner. He is survived by his fiancé of 12 years, Jasmine Quintana; parents, Kim and Eugene Washington; children, Noah Garner, Anthony Garner, Cecil Garner, Anabelle Arreaga; six sisters; four brothers, several cousins, nieces and nephews.
His family will receive friends on Saturday, July 4, from 9am until his Celebration of Life Memorial Service at 11am at Austin & Bell in Hendersonville.

If you have been following Smokey’s daily COVID-19 report, Mr. Rivera, though not mentioned by name, was on a ventilator for over 60 days. His recovery is a testament to the great staff at NorthCrest.
We would like to thank Mr. Rivera’s family for allowing us to share in this special moment.
After three months of getting to know him, Dr. Matthew Garner and the staff of incredible nurses also found Mr. Rivera’s departure bittersweet.

“Regretfully we inform you this is the official notice that the 51st Annual Threshermen Show has been postponed until the 2021 show. We are very sorry to make this call but we think its the best decision for the safety of our guests, members, vendors and all involved.
Due to public outcry, we are entertaining the idea of scheduling it later in the fall of 2020. We know people are unhappy with us canceling but with the rules posted by Gov. Bill Lee it makes this a very hard decision. The final decision will come down to the four board members.”

Per Governor Lee’s executive order #38 the Senior center will remain closed through June 30, 2020. A determination to remain closed or reopen in July will be made and shared as soon as it becomes available.
All of us at the Senior center miss and hope that everyone is healthy and staying safe.

I miss seeing you all, the programs, the classes. Especially the rhythm, energy and the smiles we all seem to share.
We are working on our reopening plan. Things may look and be quite different for a while. Social distancing, temperatures took as you enter and throughout the day, masks, limited activities/programs, remote Internet classes, limited hours etc. is just a glimpse as to what our new normal may look like in order to return.
But we look forward to the day when we can get safely back together and that day WILL come!
Take care”

Orlinda: Byrum Porter Senior Center Re-Opening Plan…
Efforts are underway for the Byrum Porter Senior Center to safely reopen along with a new enclosed expansion, outdoor concert and yard sale.
NEW UPDATE 6/29/2020…
Per Governor Lees directions today (July 30) we can not open until Aug 29th. Keep watching for more music on Facebook and we hope we can see everyone soon.
An update from Byrum-Porter Senior Center…
“We are planning a great opening for the month of July if Governor Lee permits. Lots of activities being planned (Covid 19 guidelines will be followed) and more coming. We have missed our participants and the phone has been ringing off the wall with people asking about when we will reopen.
We have completed our new enclosure, in the back of the building, and it brings in lots of light and will be a great space for us to use.
We now have a room we call the Red Room (because of the floor paint) and it will have our exercise equipment, be used for our Craft-Sewing Classes and also be home to a table to be used to play cards.
Please come out to see us when we reopen as we have been busy refreshing the center.
Our plans, at this time, is to have a free outdoor concert with the Good Time Charlie band for the whole community. Social Distancing can be practiced.
We also want to have an outdoor Yard Sale. Participants have been bringing items for us to sell so keep on the lookout for the next newsletter later in June for all the details.
Our exercise classes will be back as well as Tai Chi and we will have many new things that we can do safely.
Bus trips are still on for Fall and still time to sign up.”

GREENBRIER TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – On Saturday evening Greenbrier Police responded to a home on Sycamore Rd after a passerby found a lifeless body in a yard. MAP The call went out at 8:40 pm.
According to Greenbrier Police, officers arrived and began to render aid until the Greenbrier Fire Dept and Robertson County EMS arrived on scene and took over patient care.
The gentleman, now identified as Dustin Hinkle, 35, of Greenbrier, was transported by Robertson County EMS to NorthCrest Medical Center where he later died.
According to Greenbrier Police, no foul play is suspected at this time, but the incident is under investigation.
“It is under investigation to completely rule out foul play,” officials said.
According to Captain Todd Dorris with the Greenbrier Police Department, there is no reason to believe that a body found near Main Street in Greenbrier back on June 1st has any correlation to this incident. Both incidents remain under investigation.
ROBERTSON COUNTY TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) –Robertson County Schools are releasing the details of their reopening plan for the upcoming school year, the fall of 2020.
The district said they have received feedback from almost 5,000 families representing over 8000 Robertson County students, as well as a majority of teachers and other faculty and staff.
“It is encouraging to know that many of our families want their children to return to their school in August, and we are excited to announce that these students will have the opportunity to return to school all day, Monday through Friday. Procedures and protocols are being worked out at this time to keep these students as safe as possible in our school buildings and on our school busses,” the district said.
“The feedback from our community also tells us that many of our families are concerned about sending their students back to a school in August. For this reason, Robertson County Schools will be offering a virtual option to parents and students who would like that choice. This option will also be available to those students who are absent from school for an extended amount of time due to COVID19. Lastly, we are exploring hybrid options that will be released in the near future. We thank you for your patience as we solidify the details of these plans.”
The district’s next announcement will be on July 13th at the regularly scheduled school board meeting. This meeting will be a public meeting but will be limited to 50 visitors. It will also be streamed live at www.rcstn.net.
Smokey Barn News will continue to follow this story and report relevant developments as they reach our newsroom.
