One Injured One Taken Into Custody Following Springfield Area Rollover

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – One person was transported to NorthCrest Medical Center in Springfield and another taken into custody following a rollover crash in Springfield.

The crash occurred on Burr Rd just outside Springfield city limits around 7:30 pm Wednesday evening. LOCATION OF CRASH

The driver was given a field sobriety test and then taken into custody. One occupant was transported to NorthCrest Medical Center with Non-Life-threatening injuries.

The vehicle, according to officials at the scene, was a Ford F-150 pickup truck. The vehicle appeared to have left the roadway following a curve and landed on its side on the shoulder of the road. Burr Rd was closed for about an hour while the Tennessee Highway Patrol investigated the crash.

One official told Smokey Barn News that both occupants were very lucky not to have suffered more serious injuries.

The White House Community Volunteer Fire Department, Robertson County EMS, the Robertson County Emergency Management Agency, the Robertson County Sheriff’s Office and the Tennessee Highway Patrol all responded to the scene.

Coopertown Ranked #2 Safest City In Tenn. By Safewise

COOPERTOWN TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – Home security product review firm SafeWise ranks Coopertown number two in Tennessee on their list of top 20 safest cities in Tennessee.

“I want to congratulate the Town of Coopertown police department and the citizens for making all of us proud and safer. This does not occur overnight but years of hard work.” Glen Guyor, Mayor – Town of Coopertown

The total list encompasses 121 cities in Tennessee. Other Robertson County cities to make the list were, Pleasant View at # 10, Portland made the list at 40, Millersville made the list at 28. Greenbrier made the list at 30. White House 42 and Springfield made the list at 89. FULL LIST

According to SafeWise, they calculate crime rates for every city in the state that met their population threshold, which is based on the median population of the state.

NOTE: If your city did not make the list, it means that it was below the population threshold or didn’t submit a complete crime report to the FBI in 2018.

According to their website, SafeWise contextualizes national crime and safety trends to show how they affect neighborhoods. “We use this knowledge to examine safety and security products and find out whether they’re worth your time. When we find flaws, gaps in coverage, or a practice that makes us raise our eyebrows, we let brands and consumers know.”

The Annual BBQ Picnic, dance has been canceled due to the COVID pandemic.

Adams Threshermen’s Show Update

“Regretfully we inform you this is the official notice that the 51st Annual Threshermen Show has been postponed until the 2021 show. We are very sorry to make this call but we think its the best decision for the safety of our guests, members, vendors and all involved.

Due to public outcry, we are entertaining the idea of scheduling it later in the fall of 2020. We know people are unhappy with us canceling but with the rules posted by Gov. Bill Lee it makes this a very hard decision. The final decision will come down to the four board members.”

Robertson County Gets D- On Social Distancing (Based On Cell Data)

According to the CDC, some people will have no symptoms but still transmit the virus. This could suggest that the number of cases in Robertson County could be higher than the official recorded cases. There are still many unknowns with this virus. All we know for sure is it is easily transmitted from person to person, and it can kill. That is why our local leaders all the way up to the President and the CDC are promoting social distancing and hand washing.

In addition, the CDC is now strongly recommending wearing some kind of mask when out in public.

An important message from the Tennessee Department of Health

We all have to work together to stop the spread of COVID-19. Feeling the need to leave home? Ask yourself if that trip is REALLY essential.

Please remember to practice physical distancing. Do your part. Stay apart.

New Restaurant "Dad's" Coming To Springfield Square

New Restaurant “Dad’s” Coming To Springfield Square

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – A new restaurant is coming to the Springfield historic square. Perched in the shadow of the Robertson County Courthouse, “Dad’s” is taking shape.

Blake Goolsby, Owner/Rib Ninja of Dad’s Ribs (pictured left) announced today that their next level restaurant, Dad’s, will be opening on the Square in Springfield, Tennessee in the front space of the historic building at 118 6th Avenue West.

Dad’s Ribs (now Dad’s) has been in business since 2019 as a delivery-only service in Nashville, TN. This newest evolution of Dad’s will offer their delicious gourmet burgers, along with a great selection of beers.

Dad’s builds on familiar offerings that have been elevated to the extraordinary such as: XXtra meaty, fall off the bone, baby back ribs, from scratch sides, like Mom’s Mac & Cheese and Chipotle BBQ Beans, 100% Angus Beef burgers, Build Your Own Fries, the very popular Nutter Butter Banana Cream, and more!

Blake is very excited to join and serve the Springfield community and went on to state: “Our philosophy is that trust and business is to be earned every day, with every customer. This will be a fun ride that the community is invited to take with us and we hope to exceed everyone’s expectations. We truly can’t wait to share what we’ve worked so hard to develop over the years. All of our recipes have been painstakingly explored over and over until a perfect blend of soul and science came together to provide something that we could be extremely proud of and could execute time after time to the same high quality and standards. That being said… Nothing was lost on flavor… It’s really really good.”

Randy Balasky, General Manager/Burger Beast, (pictured right) who will be running day to day operations, is a huge fan and has been involved for over four years. “Blake and I have been best friends for years. We have the same high standards and goals. I know what he’s thinking better than he does sometimes. He knows if I don’t truly believe in something then I can’t support it. So, when this idea was in its infancy, I had many questions. But after months of discussion, I inevitably built to the same level of excitement and took the leap to move from my home in Japan, and join him in this adventure. And it has truly been a blast so far.”

Dad’s theme is built around his father’s memory and an ode to “The Dad” and invites everyone to bring a framed picture of their dad (no larger than 8×10 please) to be added to a collage dedicated to all fathers.

Blake went on to state “We are in search of a talented artist from the community, from any age group, to contribute a mural of Springfield on a prominent interior wall. We are also looking to fill our staff with happy, committed, and energetic people VERY SOON. So, please respond asap by emailing your information or resume to dadsribs@gmail.com.”

Dad’s will be open for lunch 7 days a week from 10:30am to 2:30pm. Catering and pick up will also be available. The website and social media will be available in the next few weeks.

A tentative opening date of August 1, 2020, has been set but could change depending on the health climate in order to offer a safe environment for customers and employees.

In recent years the 118 building has gone through a massive remodeling and preservation project.  As Mr. Goolsby indicated, Dad’s will occupy the forward portion of the building that faces the Robertson County Court House, whereas the Copper Vault will continue to occupy the larger back portion of the building. Customers can enter the Copper Vault from the back or the front left 116 entrance but the two restaurants are not affiliated.

During the restoration of the building, rare antique Frank Lloyd Wright glass ‘Prism’ tiles were discovered in the windows of the 118 building.

purple tint tileIn preparing to tear out and replace the damaged leaking transom glass at 116/118 6th Avenue West (on the square in Springfield), Julie Rodriguez of Niches in Design was intrigued by the unusual glass tiles in the transom. Hidden under the canopy of the building, little notice had been given to the curious purple hue tiles for many years. Upon closer inspection and with a little research she realized that these were antique Luxfer tiles. Luxfer tiles, produced by the Luxfer Prism Company, were ingeniously designed to brighten the interior of storefronts by bending the sunlight to fall upon the walls and ceiling instead of the floor near the window; a useful innovation due to the underdevelopment of electric lighting during the very early 1900’s. But that was not Julie’s only query. About one hundred of the Luxfer tiles had a beautiful floral design formed into them; a design that seemed surprisingly progressive for the time period involved.

tile 004Although there were many Luxfer tile designs, Julie was thrilled to find that this particular design was the only one produced that was done by the famous American architect, Frank Lloyd Wright. He designed the tile in 1895 when he was a 28 year old aspiring architect. The tile design is a superb example of his budding “organic architecture” form.

The glass transom has been painstakingly restored by hand and will be shortly re-installed in its original home on our town square. The beauty of this glass will be best seen as the sun hits the prisms casting a warm glow through the inside of the storefront.

Julie Rodriguez stated, “We have enjoyed having a small share in revitalizing the beautiful town square of Springfield and we appreciate the commitment of the owners, the Pennington family, in restoring this handsome building.”

Timothy “Allen” Jones Jr. Named Robertson Co. 4-H June Dairy Month Chairman

ROBERTSON COUNTY TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) –Timothy “Allen” Jones Jr. has been named the 2020 June Dairy Month Chairman for Robertson County.

Co-sponsored by The Dairy Alliance, 4-H and the Tennessee Farm Bureau, June Dairy Month activities are designed to communicate the value of milk and other dairy products to Tennessee consumers. Chairpersons play a vital role in spreading dairy’s message in their communities.

“My sisters, Amber and Analynn, have been June Dairy Month chairmen from 2015-2019. I have helped with many of their activities and workshops. It was always fun and I learned a lot from assisting them,” Jones said. “Watching my sisters promote and teach about dairy products and dairy farmers has made me want to do the same.”

Allen, a freshman at Homelife Academy, is the son of Tim and LaDonna Jones. Jones volunteers with TNKids Nutrition. A fan of the Nashville Predators, he plays for Sumner County’s inline hockey team. He is an active member of his 4-H chapter, participating in Academic Conference, Honor Club, All Star events, speech contests, demonstrations and the Healthy Living Summit.

“We wish Allen much success in his role of communicating the nutritional benefits of milk and dairy products to the people in Robertson County,” said American Dairy Association of Tennessee president Celeste Blackburn. “Allen will appreciate the cooperation of the people there. His interest and enthusiasm will result in a better informed community from which all will benefit.”

Originally deemed “National Milk Month” by American grocers in 1937, National Dairy Month began to promote dairy consumption during peak milk production in the summer. Today, it continues celebrating with the Southeast’s communities and companies through festivals, contests and even a special night dedicated to dairy farmers at the ballpark.

In 2019, there were an estimated 32,000 Tennessee dairy cows living on 200 dairy farms producing 64.1 million gallons, or approximately 551 million pounds, of milk. The top five milk producing Tennessee counties were: Loudon, Bradley, Monroe, Bedford and McMinn.

This year’s theme, “The Art of Dairy,” encourages families to make milk their first beverage choice due to its unique package of vitamins, minerals and nutrients that are an essential part of a healthy diet. With local media and farm bureaus, dairy farmers will be working alongside The Dairy Alliance to engage consumers through social media, radio contests, T-shirt giveaways, events and more. For more information on how you can celebrate June Dairy Month, please visit us online at www.thedairyalliance.com/june-dairy-month.

Grandmaw Keyboard Etiquette From Pleasant View Mayor On Flag Day

PLEASANT VIEW TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – Pleasant View Mayor Perry Keenan posted a special Flag Day message on Facebook Sunday.

Keenan says; “We STILL live in the greatest country on earth that God has ever created!”

Mayor Keenan also added a message from your “Great Grandmaw.”  “Let people see Jesus in your words and be nicer. Because if your great grandmaw was here, she’d smack you in the mouth and take away your keyboard!”

Mayor Keenan spoke with Smokey Barn News about the post on Sunday evening. The primary emphasis he wanted to convey; despite our differences, we all live under one flag in the greatest country in the world.

We have added the Mayor’s full message below. The message appeared on Mayor Keenan personal page around 10 am Sunday morning and about an hour later on the city’s official Facebook page.

“On TV we see the protest, riots, and fires destroying people’s lives and livelihoods in a way that no virus ever could. We hear about people unnecessarily dying at the hands of others for everyone to see. We read about the destruction of our country from the inside out, while trying our best to protect ourselves and our families from the outside in. And we have neighbors on social media screaming at each other through their keyboards, leaving many unable to recognize people they once thought they knew. (continued)

“But please never forget, while these are troubling times for sure, we STILL live in the greatest country on earth that God has ever created! One that always puts it’s best and brightest forward, creating vaccines that will solve the latest world pandemic. One that works to put laws in place to protect people from the evils of others and works to punish those that break those laws-no matter what side of the badge they are on. One that encourages people to assemble, march, and protest, while knowing you can do these things peacefully and passionately without being imprisoned as an “enemy of the state”.

“Please never forget we have certain freedoms here in America that are enjoyed no where else in the world. And we do this under one nation. Under one God. Under one United States of America Flag. There’s a reason why she’s called “Old Glory” and may we never forget the people who have fought and still fight to keep us free under this flag. Happy flag day!

PK

“PS: the screaming at others on social media? Let people see Jesus in your words and be nicer. Because if your great grandmaw was here, she’d smack you in the mouth and take away your keyboard!”

White House Love’s Truck Stop Robbed In Two-State Crime Spree

WHITE HOUSE TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – In a crime spree that started in Kentucky, two men (wearing N95 masks) entered the Love’s Truck Stop in White House, brandished a knife and demanded money.

According to White House Police, the two suspects (pictured) first allegedly robbed a store on Franklin Kentucky, then a gas station in Portland at Hwy 31 and 52 before arriving at the Love’s Truck Stop around 4:46 am.

When the suspects reached White House they entered the Love’s Truck Stop. One of the men selected a soda and headed to the counter. At the counter, he asks for two packs of cigarettes. The clerk then places the cigarettes on the counter.

Police say the other suspect then went around the counter and approached the clerk with a knife while grabbing an undisclosed amount of cash from the register.

The manager, hearing the commotion and the clerk scream, came out onto the floor and confronted the suspect with the knife. In the process, the manager was elbowed or punched in the face.

The suspects then left the building with the cash and those two packs of cigarettes, heading south on I65.

Millersville Police did spot the vehicle moving at a high rate of speed on the Interstate but were unable to apprehend the suspects. The vehicle continued on, heading towards Nashville.

The vehicle description released by authorities is a Maroon Pontiac G6.

The manager that was hit in the face was injured but is expected to be OK.

If you have any information about this crime you are encouraged to call White House Police at  615-672-4903.

Stay apart.

(See update below)

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – One of Robertson County’s most popular eateries, the Depot Bar & Grill in Springfield, has temporarily closed until Friday to sanitize after a roommate of an employee tested positive for COVID-19.

The Depot is located on Main St at 10th Ave. MAP According to a company representative, the decision was made out of an abundance of caution to protect customers and staff. The restaurant plans to reopen on Friday after all their employees are tested for COVID-19.

The Depot released the following statement regarding the situation.

“We have some unfortunate news. A valued employee of ours had a roommate test positive for COVID-19. So far, the roommate is fairing well, and our employee is doing well and not exhibiting symptoms. Out of an abundance of caution, we will immediately be closing the restaurant for sterilization as well as sending all employees for testing. We plan to reopen on Friday with all employees who have received a clean bill of health. Please keep our employee and their roommate in your thoughts and prayers as they recover.”

UPDATE Wednesday, June 17, 2020:

“We have decided to keep the restaurant closed through the weekend so we have the proper amount of time to sanitize it and wait on COVID-19 test results from our team. This is not something we want to rush. The safety of our employees and of our friends and families who dine with us is the most important thing to us, now and always.

Thank you for understanding and we will see you next week.”

It's Official, Pizza & Pub Coming To GreenbrierIt’s Official, Pizza & Pub Coming To Greenbrier

GREENBIER TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – It’s official, Smokey Barn News has confirmed that Pizza and Pub is coming to Greenbrier, the deal signed with the Viridian Group Wednesday afternoon.

This will be the 5th Pizza style restaurant for owners Brad Singleton and Spencer Wakefield.

Their first restaurant, named after the street it’s on, Prince Street Pizza and Pub, opened in Gallatin in 2016. The following year the two would open their second restaurant (now under new ownership) Sanders Ferry Pizza in Hendersonville.  Next would be White House Pizza and Pub in 2018 followed by Filly’s Game and Grill on the square in Gallatin the same year.  Most recently the pair opened Portland Pizza and Pub.

The new spot for Brad and Spencer is perched right on the corner of the new College St revitalization project under the Viridian Group, located adjacent to the new Town Square Commons. MAP The restaurant’s official name will be “Greenbrier Pizza and Pub.”

The duo tells Smokey Barn News that the theme will be unique artisan pizzas. They’ll have a variety of unique ingredients like artichokes, shrimp and Nashville Hot Chicken, just to name a few. They’ll also be offering unique pizzas like their steak, vegetables, and tater tot pie that is served with a brown gravy sauce.

It’s officially a pizzeria and craft beer restaurant. Everything is baked in an oven with a variety of sandwiches and pasta on the menu. They’ll also offer low carb pizza bowls, which is basically a pizza with no crust cooked in a foil pan.

“My partner Spencer and I are ecstatic to be part of this new revitalization project going on in downtown Greenbrier,” Singleton said. “We are anxious to bring our award-winning pizza program from Sumner County into Robertson County and serve the Greenbrier Ridgetop area.

“We look forward to serving awesome pies, local craft beer and a variety of delicious menu items. We’ll be bringing in a bit of nightlife with live music and potentially Team Trivia nights and other various fun specials throughout the week. It will bring a new exciting facet to the new Greenbrier square.”

If all goes to plan, opening day will be some time in September.

The announcement comes in the wake of the opening of Town Square Commons. Located on an adjacent corner, Town Square Commons is home to Golly G’s coffee, ice cream, and sweet shop, Frankly Yours Boutique, Farm Bureau Insurance, and Jody A. Dorris Attorney At Law.

Golly G’s grand opening was Tuesday and it has been packed ever since with standing room only and a line of vehicles out to the street. Frankly Yours Boutique opened on Monday and has also enjoyed brisk sales. It’s all a big change for the Greenbrier community. FULL STORY
