Please consider voting for me on Thursday, August 6, 2020, or during early voting which runs from Friday July 17 until Saturday August 1, 2020. Thank you.”

Darrell Denton

My name is, DARRELL DENTON, I’m asking you for your SUPPORT on August 6th. Our Property taxes are our Counties & Cities number one yearly source of income to provide us services needed. For the Counties Sheriff dept or the Cities Police dept., Emergency medical services to Fire Services, our County & City Municipal depts., County highway & City roads, our School System Countywide, Our County Mayor & Commissioners, and other services provided by our County & Cities. All these paid for by US with our monies from our property taxes. Regardless we PAY our share & they will continue to increase when needed. But to have someone come and walk your property to see if you have made an improvement to your house or farm? You added a new fence, had siding put on your home, got a new storage building, repaired your old barn, or you paved your drive! WHATEVER? Then have the AUTHORITY to penalize you for improving your property & the POWER to RAISE YOUR TAXS because you’ve tried to better your property ??? I DONT AGREE !!! You will never see me on your property trying to find a REASON to RAISE your TAXES, just because you have worked hard for years to have your dreams come true. IT’S JUST NOT RIGHT! I spent over 24 years as an elected official as an Alderman & then Mayor in the City of Ridgetop, until 2016 when I didn’t seek re-election. I ran for office 6 times & never lost because the citizens knew I STOOD behind them. IF you Elect me, YOU ARE MY BOSS!!!! I will work for you & always represent you & your best interest! Jesus Christ is my Savior, & I can promise you I will always be available for you & your needs NOW & AFTER the election. Anytime my phone is on 615-714-6153. It’s TIME FOR CHANGE & WE CAN MAKE THAT CHANGE TOGETHER!!! I need your VOTE on August 6th, Thank you SO MUCH !!!!

City of Greenbrier Mayor

Lanny Adcock –

I want to introduce myself to the citizens of Greenbrier, that may not know me.

My name is Lanny Adcock and I am a lifetime resident of Robertson County. I served as a county commissioner for 22 years. During those 22 years, I served 12 years as chairman of buildings and grounds, eight years on the Robertson county sheriff Law enforcement community, four years on the Robertson County fire department committee and three years as chairman of the Robertson county budget committee. During the three years as chairman of the budget committee, two of the three years were with a balanced budget of 160 million.

*Conservative*
*Believe in operating with a balanced budget*
*100% support local law enforcement*

I also want to answer a few questions about where I stand on a few subjects.

• I am a conservative
• I am not in favor of raising property taxes
• My focus will be to do what is best for the city of Greenbrier and its citizens
• I believe functioning with a balanced budget is a necessity
• I feel workers should be placed based on their qualifications to do a specific job
• I believe in being fair but firm
• I am for giving back and helping others in our community

Jeff De Long –

Delong is a long time resident of Greenbrier and has served as Alderman for 14 years.

“A family man with a wife and 3 children, 11 grandchildren and 3 greatgrandchildren. I am a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church where I serve as Deacon and Sunday school director, ” Delong told Smokey Barn News.

“I recently retired from the Tennessee Army National Guard where I served 34 years including 2 deployments Operation Southern Watch and Operation Iraqi Freedom. I am in my second year serving as County Commissioner. I own and operate a service business in Greenbrier. My life has been dedicated to serving.

“I know the struggles of working every day trying hard to raise a family. I know what it is like when one flat tire or a dead battery can set you back and cause something else not to be paid, I have been there.

“I also know what it is like for a small business owner to try to survive with all the regulations and rules. I believe that a person that works hard should be rewarded not regulated. My family has had 3 generations graduate from Greenbrier schools and a 4th started this year.

“I care about this city and will always do my best to put the will of the citizens 1st and would appreciate your support.

Burtis Ridge –

“A Fresh Start” My name is Burtis Ridge and I am a citizen of Greenbrier and have lived in Robertson Co for most of my life. I love this town and as Mayor my plan is to make this city safer and cleaner for the residents who enjoy living here.

•We need to add sidewalks near our schools so, our kids do not have to walk on the edge of the highway.

•We need to slow folks down as they use our highways and roads.

•We must add signaled crosswalks in the town square.

•We need to get a severe weather warning system in place that works.

•We need to add an auxiliary fire station on the opposite side of the railroad tracks equipped for emergencies.

•We need to enforce codes so that our city remains beautiful and inviting to visitors and citizens of Greenbrier.

•We need to add American flags in prominent places throughout the city.

•We need to maintain a balanced budget while providing the services that Greenbrier needs and requires while keeping taxes low.

I would appreciate your vote and will work hard for you if you give me a chance.

Sincerely,

Burtis Ridge

Sabi (Doc) Kumar

Thank You Robertson County!

It is an honor to serve as your State Representative in the Tennessee Legislature! I am proud of my service since 2014! I ask for Your Vote and Support because:

1. I Have Served the People.
As a surgeon, I always return my patient’s calls. I have done so for the last 43 years. As your State Representative, I have always responded to your calls, messages, emails and letters. In the time of the Covid-19 pandemic and the economic downturn, my office and I have worked to help all citizens who have called us for help with state matters including unemployment benefits. I, and my staff, give advice or connect you with the right person in government. We follow up and make sure that you received the help that you needed. Life being what it is, not all problems can be solved. When such is the case, we explain why and folks understand.
A particular joy has been to attend the eight High School Graduations in Robertson County. Sadly, this may not happen in 2020. We will always invite young graduates to come and shadow with me as a Surgeon or as a State Representative. It is a blessing to guide and inspire them!

2. I Have Served The Community.
I was elected to be your State Representative on November 4, 2014. Just ten days later, on November 14, 2014, I met with the TDOT Commissioner. I had not even been sworn in, yet! The plans about widening of highway 431 and a traffic signal at the junction of highways 49 – 257 have existed for years. I worked to make it happen. Construction is inconvenient, but the new roads are going to be beautiful!

3. Support Our Veterans
My wife Linda’s dad served in Korea. Linda and I have a special place for Veterans in our hearts. We visit, support and honor our Veterans!

4. I Have Served The State.
I have stood for our Common Sense Conservative Values: Love of God, Country and Sanctity of Life. I have worked to lower taxes, improve government, support 2nd Amendment and a balanced budget (Yes!). I have pushed for the largest ever increases in funding for our public schools and raises for our teachers.

5. I Give Back to Our Community.
I donate my salary to local causes and civic organizations.
This is my way to give back to a community that has given me everything that I have, including my wife Linda – 38 great years!

6. Keeping in Touch
Linda and I greatly enjoy and visit people, organizations and community events. My newspaper articles have regularly kept you informed.

7. Looking Ahead
I have set a foundation of trust, friendship, and honesty with citizens and fellow legislators. They seek and value my opinions. I am grateful to my wife Linda and our daughter Nina for love, support, help — and a little criticism, when necessary!
Please, pray for God’s Guidance. I ask for your vote and thank you for the trust you have placed in me! God Bless You and Our Nation!

Springfield Woman Shot In The Leg At Church Amidst Fireworks Saturday Night

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – A Springfield woman is recovering after she was shot in the leg while attending church Saturday night.

The incident occurred just after midnight Saturday (early Sunday morning) at the Christ Community Church (Inglesia Comunidad De Christo) located at 1501 School St. The church sits on the corner of School St and Bransford Dr just yards away and directly across from Bransford Elementary School. MAP

According to Springfield Police, a single-round penetrated the front door of the church and struck the 21-year-old woman in the leg while she was talking with a small group that was standing around the pulpit. The victim told police that she heard a loud noise that sounded like a gunshot and then she fell to the floor. Her leg was stabilized with tourniquets by Robertson County EMS and she was transported to Skyline Medical Center in Nashville for treatment. An update on her condition was not immediately available.

Springfield police tell Smokey Barn News that they are developing suspects in the case but they do not believe the incident was a hate crime. Springfield Police Chief Jason Head told Smokey Barn News that evidence suggests that, under the cover of fireworks, rounds were fired nearby and a stray bullet struck the church and ultimately the victim who was inside.

A witness told police that moments before the shooting a white SUV drove slowly past the church, and moments after the shots, a white Infinity SUV was reportedly seen pulling into the old Wilson Plant located on the other end of School St. Police said, both the front and rear driver’s side tires on the SUV were flat.

Witnesses told police that a black male with short hair, about 5’10” and 140 lbs, wearing a blue shirt and blue jeans fled from the vehicle. The vehicle’s tag number was recovered by the police.

Senator Roberts Charts Out Declining US COVID Death Rate

ROBERTSON COUNTY TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – Senator Kerry Roberts produced a chart graphing out the declining COVID-19 death rate in the US and posted the chart on his Facebook page. Within about 20 minutes the chart had been shared more than 500 times and at last glance, the chart was making its way past 1,900 shares.

Senator Roberts provided corroborating facts and sources from the CDC but did not offer any commentary or opinions, just the chart.  Smokey Barn News has added the chart below for your review.

“In the entire U.S., COVID-19 deaths peaked the week of April 18 with 16,374 deaths and have dropped steadily until the week of July 4th with 71 deaths.” Senator Kerry Roberts

“There is much confusion over COVID-19 data and the context of the data, Senator Roberts’ stated. “The attached graph shows the weekly deaths through July 4, 2020, for the entire U.S. since the CDC started compiling the data on February 1, 2020. I took this data directly from the CDC’s website on July 7th and prepared the attached graph, which you are welcome to share. Robertson County Now Requiring Masks- Mayor Billy Vogle

Robertson County Now Requiring Masks- Mayor Billy Vogle

ROBERTSON COUNTY TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – According to an announcement by Robertson County Mayor Billy Vogle Tuesday afternoon, starting on Wednesday, July 8th at 11:59 pm masks will be required in public places in Robertson County.

All the specifics of the order are below. To see Smokey’s interview with Robertson County Mayor Billy Vogle click here.

We have provided the details from both the County Mayor and the governor regarding the specifics of this order. We have also provided a statement on the enforcement of this order from the Robertson County Sheriff’s department below.

Dear City Mayors and Citizens of Robertson County:

On July 3, Governor Lee’s Executive Order No. 54 granted county mayors in 89 counties the authority to issue local mask requirements in the event of a significant rise in COVID-19 cases. A copy of that Governor’s Order is attached. After consulting with health professionals and discussions with city and county leaders, I am issuing a county-wide Executive Order requiring the wearing of face masks in public places. We are currently experiencing a public health emergency. We need everyone’s help to slow the trend of rising COVID-19 cases. My purpose is to reduce the rate of infection of this deadly virus.

Over the past couple of weeks, our numbers of confirmed cases have risen dramatically, which is concerning and dangerous.

Pandemic fatigue is real; our confusion and frustration is real…but now is the time to take proactive measures and focus on the health of our family, friends, neighbors and community. Not only has this virus had a detrimental effect on the health and welfare of our citizens but has also been responsible for wrecking our economic welfare.

Robertson County has been in contact today with legal representatives of other surrounding Counties and the legal representatives of the County Technical Advisory Services (CTAS), who represent and advise all Tennessee County governments. Further, CTAS representatives advise that these issues have been discussed with legal representatives of MTAS, which is the similar entity that represents and advises Tennessee cities. It appears that these parties agree as follows:

1. The Governor’s above Executive Order grants to the County Mayor, without any local City action necessary, the authority to require face coverings for all persons in each County, unless exempted by the Governor’s Order, and applies to all persons who both reside within the City limits of a municipality within the County, and those persons that reside in the more rural areas of the County outside a City.

2. Upon issuance of such Local Emergency Order by the County Mayor, as Agreed by CTAS and MTAS, such an Order takes the force of State law, and as such is enforceable by not only the County Sheriff’s Department, but officers of each municipal police department in the County, in the same manner as any other State Law.

It is my understanding that officials in Williamson County and Sumner Counties have issued such Orders yesterday.

My first thought was to issue an Order which required persons to determine when they entered a public place if in their judgment, appropriate CDC social distancing could be obtained, and if not, then to either leave or put on a mask at that point. I am advised that because of the ambiguity in such requirement this is likely not legally enforceable and could draw the County into legal action.

Based upon all of the above, I have signed the attached County Executive Emergency Order. I expect other surrounding Counties to soon issue similar Orders.

This is a very fast-moving issue and I wanted to reach out to each of you regarding our understanding of these circumstances. Since Robertson County is in the higher bracket for COVID cases in the State, it seems this would best for the protection of our citizens and guests.

Now it is up to all of us to be responsible and to take the advice of health professionals. We need to change the current dynamic to slow the spread. Health professionals recommend that wearing face coverings is the most effective way to slow the spread of the virus. If community action is not taken, the spread of this virus will continue to intensify and our daily activities will be impacted. If we don’t take these steps, we may end up where we started with businesses closing which in turn will have a devastating effect on our family and our ability to earn a living. With this Order, I am asking that you wear a mask. This Order will be enforced.

Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. Thank you for keeping your family and our community safe. God Bless.

-Robertson County Mayor Billy Vogle

IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that this Order does not apply to:

GREENBRIER TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) –  The GreenRidge Chamber of Commerce hosted a Greenbrier Mayoral candidate forum Tuesday night July 7, 2020.

The forum was held at Greenbrier City Hall, but due to COVID-19, it was not open to the public.

Thus, the event was broadcast live on the Smokey Barn News FaceBook page. Click the image above to see the full coverage of the Mayoral candidate forum.

Candidates for Mayor:

• Burtis Ridge
• Jeff Delong
• Lanny Adcock

Moderator: U-Turn LaVern

We have provided public announcements from each candidate below for your review.

22-Year-Old Mother Loses Leg After Holiday Shooting In Springfield

22-Year-Old Mother Loses Leg After Holiday Shooting In Springfield

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – A 22-year-old Springfield mother, that was accidentally shot during a church service Saturday evening, has now lost her leg at the knee due to complications from the shooting, her family said.

The incident occurred just after midnight Saturday (early Sunday morning) at the Christ Community Church (Inglesia Comunidad De Christo) located at 1501 School St. The church sits on the corner of School St and Bransford Dr just yards away and directly across from Bransford Elementary School. MAP

According to Springfield Police, a single-round penetrated the front door of the church and struck 22-year-old Clarisa Roblero, of Springfield, in the leg while she was talking with a small group that was standing around the pulpit. VIDEO REPORT

Church officials told Smokey Barn News that they were holding a 4th of July service that had just finished and Clarisa was enjoying refreshments with other members. As Clarisa prepared to take a group photo, a shot rang out from outside and Clarisa fell to the floor.

Her leg was stabilized with tourniquets by Robertson County EMS and she was transported to Skyline Medical Center in Nashville for treatment.

Clarisa’s medical team made several attempts to save the leg but the damage was too severe. Clarisa’s right leg was amputated at the knee Thursday.

Clarisa talked with Smokey Barn News from her hospital bed via an interpreter. Clarisa said she has forgiven the shooter. Clarisa’s message to the shooter; “God bless you and I hold no grudge against you. I have to learn how to forgive so I can have peace.”

Clarisa told Smokey Barn News that she moved to the United States to offer her 7-year-old son a better life. Clarisa’s family does not have medical insurance and she will be needing a prosthetic limb. The family will also be facing significant expenses due to her injuries. “We would appreciate any help the community is willing to offer,” Clarisa said.

If you would like to offer financial assistance to Clarisa’s family, a Go-Fund-Me account has been set up to help with medical and other expenses. Smokey Barn News has confirmed that the account has been set up by a friend of the family.

For more details about the incident and a description of a possible suspect, see Smokey’s original story.

Robertson-Back To School Plan Update & Registration

ROBERTSON COUNTY TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – Robertson County Schools are releasing more information regarding the start of the 2020 school year as well as registration information.

Robertson County Schools has opened online registration for the 2020-2021 school year. All students will have two available options when registering for the first 9-weeks.

The first option will be typical in-person school attendance:

with regular hours. There will be health-related procedures and protocols established and expected of all students in order to access this option. These procedures are summarized in the registration process.

The second option is online virtual school participation:

This virtual school will be conducted by Robertson County Schools teachers and will NOT look like it did back in the spring of this year. Virtual students will be expected to log on and work with assigned online content, under the supervision of district teachers. Assignments will be given, assessments will be taken, and grades/credits will be awarded accordingly. Families choosing this option will have information sent to them prior to the first day of school.

A registration link for the new school year can be found at rcstn.net where the choice will be made between the in-school option and the virtual option. A description of both options will also be on the registration site. The registration deadline for either option is July 24th. This deadline is in place so that the proper number of teachers can be assigned and proper plans can be made based on numbers for both options.

Additionally, please note that the first day of school for grades 1-12 has been adjusted.

On August 12,13, and 14, one-third of the students returning to classroom studies will attend school on their assigned day (selected alphabetically)

August 12th – Last Names A – G
August 13th – Last Names H – O
August 14th – Last Names P – Z

to review procedures and protocols that will be needed for the first 9-weeks. Virtual school students and parents will be introduced to the on-line platform, procedures, and protocols during this time as well. On August 17, all instruction, both in-school and virtual, will begin. Kindergarten and Pre-K parents will be notified separately regarding these start dates.

Due to the ever-changing details of this situation, circumstances are fluid and the district’s pledge is to communicate transparently as needed. Thank you for your patience during this time.

Springfield Nursing Facility Addresses Rumors About COVID-19 Cases

Springfield Nursing Facility Addresses Rumors About COVID-19 Cases

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – A nursing facility in Springfield is addressing rumors after 2 patients and 4 staff members test positive for COVID-19.

In an early move against the spread of COVID-19 in their facilities, The Waters, a nursing and rehabilitation firm in Springfield transferred all of their patients to one facility allowing the second to act as a COVID-19 treatment quarantine center should the need arise. It was an aggressive move to protect their patients. FULL STORY

After going months without a positive COVID-19 diagnosis, the agency decided to reopen the second facility and opted to section off a wing of each facility as a COVID-19 quarantine area, should the need arise.

According to a representative with The Waters, for a time, both facilities continued to test negative for COVID-19 until this week when 4 employees and 2 patients tested positive. A third patient also tested positive days after being transferred to a hospital for treatment for an unrelated condition.

Now, with two positive patients at one facility, the agency has implemented the in-place protocols and moved them into the COVID-19 wing with dedicated staff members until they recover.

The following is their official statement.

“Recently we had two residents and four staff test positive for Covid-19. Additionally, we recently sent one resident to another medical facility who was diagnosed there. We are doing everything we can to ensure we stop the spread of this virus within our community which includes weekly testing of all staff. The Waters of Robertson’s strict proactive measures are still in place and will continue to be in place. We have a dedicated isolation wing with dedicated staff to care for our Covid-19 residents.

“We are in very close communication with local and state health officials to ensure we are taking every appropriate step presently. The safety and well-being of our residents and staff is our top priority and we are following the recommended preventative measures until this virus has been eradicated from our community.  Thank you for your prayers and well wishes at this crucial time.”

The decision to release the statement was made following unsubstantiated rumors.
