Springfield Police End Stand Off Peacefully

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – A Springfield man barricaded himself inside of a home for about an hour Saturday before peacefully surrendering himself to police.

The standoff started around 5:07pm at a home located near the intersection of Richard St and Central Ave, directly across from Elm Wood Cemetery. MAP

According to Springfield Police Chief David Thompson, the suspect had been drinking heavily and allegedly threatened to kill a woman and her children in the home following an altercation with another individual at the home.

The woman and her children were able to escape the home and call police. The suspect stayed inside the home with two handguns and a knife, Thompson said,  the weapons were recovered following the standoff.

Springfield Police employed a Spanish Speaking interpreter to assist in the negotiations and after about an hour the suspect surrendered.

Springfield Police cordoned  off the area and asked residents to stay inside their homes. Police vehicles were completely blocking the entrance to Elmwood Cemetery. An event scheduled to start at 6:pm at the cemetery called “Evening At Elmwood” had to be moved to the Senior Center in Springfield.

Chief Thompson indicated the suspect did appear to have been in an altercation but otherwise no one was injured in the standoff. Police said that they are looking for the other individual involved in the earlier altercation that fled the scene.

The Robertson County Sheriff’s Office, Springfield Police, Robertson County EMS and the Springfield Fire Department all responded to the scene.

Community Rallies For Injured Teen After Rollover Crash

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) –  A White House teenager is in the fight of his life following a rollover crash that has left him with no feeling from the chest down.

The crash occurred in front of Rod’s Tire on Monday just before 2pm. MAP The driver, Brian Mullins, of White House,  who just turned 19 in March, was pinned under a utility van after it had rolled several times.

With the wet road conditions the vehicle left the roadway and impacted a utility pole and began to roll. Springfield Police, who investigated the crash, were not sure how many times the vehicle rolled before it came to rest on it’s side.  When the vehicle finally stopped, Mullins was partially pinned underneath. Mullins had suffered a broken neck.

A second occupant did sustain cuts and bruises.

Robertson County EMS and Springfield Fire were on the scene quickly and freed Mullins. He was transported to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville. Since Monday the teen has already had two surgeries to try to repair the damage but at the moment he has no feeling from his chest down.

Now the community is reaching out to the family with emotional and financial support. A go Go Fund me page to help support the family has been set up and the White House High School football team are having a pancake breakfast this Saturday donating all proceeds to Brian and his family.

Support bracelets are also available for purchase via local businesses to help support the family. Email  jax32283@gmail.com for more ways to donate or if you would like to offer the bracelets at your business.

“We just want to thank everyone for all the prayers, love and support they have shown. We appreciate your continued prayer! Brian is a strong willed young man and will do whatever it takes to recover. Again thank you all for thinking of Brian during this difficult time.” Mullins family…

If you would like to attend the Pancake Breakfast to benefit Brian Mullins, the Blue Devil Football team has chosen to make this Saturday’s Pancake Breakfast  a fundraiser for their former teammate.  WHERE: The Colorado Grill WHEN:  7 am – 10 am. “Tickets are $5 per person and all donations will be appreciated.”(MAP)

Police Seek Alleged Walmart Loss Prevention Officer Impersonator

WHITE HOUSE TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – White House Police are currently investigating an incident that occurred inside the White House Walmart Friday.

According to officials in White House, on  Friday June 9, White House Police responded to “a possible assault that occurred at Walmart.”

It was reported that a male subject was attempting to impersonate a loss prevention officer. White House Police Detectives are investigating the report and are following very strong leads on a possible suspect.

“It is believed that this is an isolated incident and that this case will be closed soon,” White House Police released in a statement Saturday.

Smokey Barn News talked in length with White House Police Chief Pat Brady Saturday morning about the incident. Chief Brady said Detectives are still trying to understand exactly what happened and what the intentions of the suspect were but no one was harmed in the incident.

Chief Brady reiterated that he believes that this was an isolated incident but his detectives are taking the matter seriously.

There has been a strong reaction from the community with concerns over the intent of the man.  Was it an attempted abduction? Was it a prank? Chief Brady told Smokey Barn News that until they have an opportunity to question him they can only speculate.

Chief Brady was candid with us as we spoke this morning. Based on all the information available, there was not enough evidence to release an official public warning but his department did release a short statement about the incident on their Facebook page after we spoke.

As soon as more information becomes available we will bring it to you.

Springfield Police Investigate: Scam Alert

Police Investigating Local Shopper Scams

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – The Springfield Police Department is currently investigating Scam Artist contacting residents stating they have been accepted into a mystery shopper program.

At least one Springfield resident has been targeted in the past few days.

The victim received a package in the mail that contained a check for $2,450.00 and letter on Customer First letterhead informing the victim that they had been accepted into the program. The letter instructed the victim to deposit the check into their checking account and wire transfer $1927.89 to Texas. Several days later the check was returned and was counterfeit and the money had been deducted from their account.

Recently, we’ve learned about other scams that begin when a person got an email offering “secret shopper” jobs with retailers such as Wal-Mart, Kmart, Best Buy and Home Depot.

When people click the website, it appears to look as if you are on a retailer’s site, but you are not. You’re asked to provide personal information to get started and told that you will soon receive a cashier’s check for around $1500.00. Once people receive the check, they are instructed to deposit it into their personal account and keep $300.00 to cover initial expenses, and wire back the rest of the money. The “JOB” is not real and is not associated with any actual stores. You’re dealing with a scammer and the check is counterfeit.

Following these tips can help a person avoid a mystery shopper scam:

Do research on the company. Most legitimate secret shopper jobs are posted online by reputable marketing research or merchandising companies. Scammers like using name of well-known companies to gain your trust.

If you have had similar incidents, please notify local law enforcement.

Springfield Police is currently investigating the theft of a purse from a victim while unloading item from a shopping car into their vehicle in the Wal-Mart parking lot.

A black Nissan Altima being driven by a black male and a black female passenger pulled up to the victim and the female passenger got out and grabbed the purse and fled. The victim was not injured during the incident.
